    Singapore Visitors Center

    Hotel Reservations

    Meeting Services

    Money Exchange

    Transportation to city
Normal taxi: Join the taxi queue at the Arrival Hall. All taxis in Singapore run by meter and are generally honest. There is a surcharge of S$3 - S$5 from the airport and 50% midnight charges apply (There is no 50% on the surcharge).

MRT: Easiest mode of budget transport for easy to get lost travellers. Go to the MRT station located at the end of Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Grab a MRT map from the station or the Singapore Visitor's Centre at the Arrival Halls. Best to check which MRT station is nearest to your destinations before leaving the airport. Look for the yellow sign "City Train" around the airport

Airport Shuttle: A taxi pool service best recommended for individual travellers not in rush for time, but don't want the hassle of taking public transport and don't want to pay extra money for the normal taxis. Airport Shuttle has a counter located in each Terminal and will depart at fixed times displayed on the counter. You will need to pay S$9 in cash directly to the driver. Tell the counter staff where you are going for them to consolidate the list to the drivers. The shuttle will bring you to the hotels in the city area except those in Sentosa Island.

Maxicabs: Same counter as Airport Shuttle. You can book the whole shuttle cab at S$45 and it seats 7 people inside. Note that there are extra charges for every stop along the way to the final destination

Limousine Taxis: At another counter beside the Airport Shuttle. The taxis are the Mercedes type
The cost and operation is like the maxicabs and also cost S$45.

Public Bus: Proceed to the basement of the terminals and you will find the public bus stop. Not recommended unless following a local or have done it before.

Car Rentals: Drive and follow the signs. Counters at the Arrival Halls.

    Other Tips
Be aware of touts. Yes they do appear occasionally and will normally target a certain group of people. Some of these people are from the airport shuttle and limousine counters trying to get business.

Airport hotels. Only 2 hotels provide free shuttle service to/fro the hotel. They are the Changi Village Hotel and the Mercure Roxy Square. Pls approach the hotel reservations counter for the representative pick up. The new Crowne Plaza near Terminal 3 will be ready mid 2008.

Skytrain: The people mover system runs between Terminals 1, 2 and 3 from 5am to 2.30am daily. There will be a free bus service linking the three terminals. There is also an open air walkway linking terminals 1 and 2. You have to follow the directional signs. For passengers walking between Terminals 2 and 3, you can walk via the Mezzanine level at out MRT station between the Terminals. The route between Terminals 1 and 3 is not ready.

Restaurants: McDonalds, Polar Cafe, Pacific Coffee, Burger King, Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Tong Shui Cafe, Breeks Cafe and the Food Court operates 24hrs.

Airport Staff canteen: Our little gem of local food at hawker prices! Lots of locals know about this place where the most famous satay stall (Rex Satay) in Singapore is now located. I think it doesn't taste as nice now...since we cannot use the charcoal stove here. It gets jam packed, but pls be considerate to the airport staff and refrain from eating during peak lunch / dinner hours. The staff only have limited hours for their meals and they can't exactly afford restaurant prices every day! Staff gets discounted prices and the list is shown at all the stalls.

      Airlines in Budget Terminal

      Tiger Airways
      Cebu Pacific Airways

      Departure and Arrival

All the departure and arrival information are the same as above.

Both airlines do not have early check in facilities.

Check In allowance for Tiger Airways is 15kg. Excess Baggage is charged at S$10 per kg.

Check In allowance for Cebu Pacific is 20kg. Excess Baggage is charged at S$10 per kg.

      Other Notes
There is a 24 hours Free Shuttle Bus service linking Terminal 2 (Basement) and the Budget Terminal. It operates at 10 minutes interval from 0500hrs to 0100hrs. From 0101hrs to 04359hrs, the bus service will operate at 30 minutes interval.

There is only 1 restaurant outside (Hanis) at the public area. The shops and other eateries are located after Immigration.

The Gate number for the flight will be displayed on the Flight Information TV 60 mins before the Standard Time of Departure (STD). In the meantime, the gate will not be reflected at all and passsengers are advised to wait patiently in the Departure Lounge.

All passengers have to walk approx 20m in the open area before boarding the plane. Umbrellas will be provided by the ground handler during inclement weather. You have to return those brollys after use!

Passengers need to walk approx. 300m from the furthest gate to the arrival immigration. The whole arrival walkway has no air-conditioning.

      Other Tips
There is a new Lost and Found counter located at the Departure Hall beside the GST/Customs counter. The counter also serves as a Left Baggage area for paxs to store their bags.

There is a little food kiosk just beside the taxi holding area directly opposite the Arrival Hall. One of the newest haunts for the airport staff here as the food is cheaper and taste better.

Very nice pics, although I can't say that I am impressed with the terminal facilities.

Me and my friend managed to be at the belt before the bags came out during one of our flight in December 2005. And our bags came out first (with no priority tag, travelling on Y) The customs wasn't too busy on our arrival at 1730.

I always know I'm back in Singapore when the bags are already on the belt when I arrive, and are neatly arranged one by one right way up

Yeah, that's one thing I like about Changi, fast and efficient. This is unlike an airport that takes thirty or so minutes for your luggages to reach the conveyor belt.

The reverse could be bad too. At the old Don Muang Airport (BKK) the immigration lines cleared at such a snail's pace that my bags were already up and standing beside the belt by the time I got to them.

Just like to add that for departing passengers, security checks are carried out at the aircraft gate, and so the only time limitation you have is getting to the gate from the shops in time!

Singapore airport is not as busy as Hong Kong for example. In fact the 2 terminals is under use. Now they have T3, so to check out so be fast. However, if you need to transfer, especially to other terminal. It may takes a long walk before you reach the "sky" train!

Changi passengers numbers have been growing. So what hppens if you do things right is you introduce something called forward planning. You build the new facility before the old one goes over it's original capacity. Otherwise you end up with an overcrowded airport running above it's original capacity, a la LHR.

Hopefully the concept is simple enough for you to grasp.

Well put. There are occasions where demand can be overestimated and you end up with a "white elephant" (KUL comes to mind...), but that is not likely to be the case with SIN.

Sorry, but I don't understand your point. If you need to transfer, you won't need to worry about reclaiming luggage. It should be done without much brouhaha: the T3 press releases claim that the automated luggage system will whisk luggage from T2 to T3 (or vice versa) within 3 minutes. Do you have reliable information that contradicts this?

If you do decide to reclaim between the flights, you would need to get your luggage out at T2, for example, and then check in at T3 with enough time to make your connection. You seem to think this will be a mess. I disagree. The best way to settle this would be a real-time experience.

Perhaps you would care to accompany me or another SQTalker on a T2 to T3 transfer (or vice versa) in 2008 so we can time the process and get a real data point, rather than rely on some data-free hypothesizing? I think that would be a grand experiment.

Should I be a dot in the experiment? My record of missing bags would make an outlier.
