  • Vistara launching SIN in August 2019

    https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news...umbai-11711134

The full-service carrier will operate two daily flights to Singapore, one each from Delhi and Mumbai.

The Delhi-Singapore route will start on Aug 6 and the Mumbai-Singapore route on Aug 7. The airline said it would soon expand its international network to other destinations.

Boeing 737-800NG aircraft will ply the two new routes, with business and economy class seats.

Apparently Vistara will operate out of Changi T3. Effectively “taking over” Jet Airways space at the terminal. I wonder which lounge it will use? Will it use the SilverKris? Or SATS?

Anyway, flight timings seem to be available:

        - UK105 BOM-SIN dep 2355 arr 0815+1
        - UK106 SIN-BOM dep 1030 arr 1355

        - UK115 DEL-SIN dep 2345 arr 0815+1
        - UK116 SIN-DEL dep 0930 arr 1245

They'll need at least 2 gates.

I was going to say that T3 is wasted for 737 operations given the lack of MARS gates and SQ needing as much gates as they can for their own bank, but then again SQ is there and the service likely relies on connections to SQ. Perhaps joining Scoot in T1, with preference to C gates, may be a better compromise?

I'm not sure whether they can use SKL given the renovations, and VA doesn't fly to SIN so there's not much of a comparison for J passengers. Velocity elites use the KFG lounge ex-SIN, so Vistara elites may get a similar arrangement.

T3 has A6, A7 & A8 but I can't say I've ever noticed them getting any use. Given they are 737 flights, perhaps they could now?

Flight timings look ok. I would still prefer an evening departure to India as it allows you to spend the work day in Singapore, but the return BOM-SIN and DEL-SIN timings are good: After finishing meetings in India I can head straight to the airport to catch the late night flight, and be back in SIN by the next morning.

Five hours is too long to spend on an Airbus A320 (Or 737). SQ's widebody services or AI's 787 services are still preferable, but still it is nice to have Vistara as an option. I've not travelled to India so far this year (I previously mostly flew Jet Airways domestic) but will definitely want to give Vistara a try on my next visit, at least on the domestic sectors.

A6,A7 and A8 are remote bay boarding gates.

Apologies, have now researched and educated myself on what a MARS gate is.

I mean, the point probably still stands, but I doubt Vistara would want to bus passengers to/from a 5h 737 flight.

It's like giving DL only remote bays at ICN.

With Jet Airways' demise, I guess Vistara will just be taking over Jet Airways' slots at T3.

Not just the slot. The planes used on this route will also be 737s which I believe are ex-Jet Airways. Likely even the crew. So it’s Jet Airways re-named!

I have yet to check if they had repainted the planes yet. Seats are almost certainly not refurbished to Vistara. Spicejet didn’t even bother to change the livery.

What were the timings of the Jet Airways flights anyway? Slots are based on time, I'd think...

From just the morning bank, these were the approximate timings:

                          9W012 BOM0115 – 0925SIN
                          9W009 SIN1115 – 1410BOM

The new Vistara timings look preferable to these. 0100 HRS or 0115 HRS departures are no fun. The Vistara flights depart India at 2345 HRS /2355 HRS, and that hour plus earlier does make a positive difference.
