  • SQ62/61 SIN-DME-IAH return

    G'Day!

Can anyone assist me by sharing about this route. Apparently, I'll be flying onboard SQ62 SIN-DME-IAH and SQ61 IAH-DME-SIN during End of January 2012. I'll be flying on Coach Y Class onboard 77W.

This will be my first time flying for approx 25 Hours 40 Minutes with layover at DME for approx. 90 Minutes Vice Versa.

My queries are during the layover in DME for 90 Minutes, are we disembarking the aircraft immediately to a boarding gate holding room or are we allowed to look around within DME Clean/Restricted Transit Hall? If we do allowed to look around within DME Transit Hall, during boarding must I go through all the Airport Security Screening at the Boarding Gate Room again (since we are within the Clean/Restricted Transit Hall)? Do they have a Smoking Room (within the Clean/Restricted Transit Hall) just like Changi Airport Clean/Restricted Transit Terminals?

Secondly, based on information provided SQ62 Arriving at IAH Terminal E? and SQ61 Departure for Singapore from IAH Terminal D?

I'm thinking of buying Duty Free to carry along for final Destination at IAH. When and where should I buy Duty Free e.g. 1 Litre Spirit, 2 Bottles of Wines and 1 Carton of Cigarette (200s)? I will taking with an immediate Domestic Connecting Flight from IAH Terminal E to IAH Terminal B for Continental Express to Pensacola, Florida, USA.

Thanks again and need help from SQTalk Members.

When you arrive DME, you have to go trough transit security, the funny thing the last time i went through 2 months ago , you can leave a computer in your bag , but have to take off your watch.
You can walk around in the departure hall, its pretty bad, not much to buy
just liquour, cigs and some dolls and thats about it.
Not sure about smoking zone as i donot smoke , so never really looked.

As to buying wine etc , I am not sure on USA rules, but I am pretty sure
they will not let you take it on as carry on anything over 100ml to a domestic flight you may have to put in in your checked luggage.Even though it was from duty free.
You should also check with Sq, about buying duty free in Moscow or singapore and taking on the flight from DME-Iah.

I have just flown from HKG-San Francisco, after security in HKG, my daughter had taken a bottle water from the SQ Lounge and when you board the flight
you go through another security check they check your carry on, on the jet way, and took her bottled water, even though it was after normal security, as they said that is rules from the the USA, nothing over 100ml, even if purchased after security, so I would check before you buy something and have it taken.

    Good luck

Thanks for the information shared pertain to stopover and duty free. Incidentally, I'll be flying on with Star Alliance for both SQ & CO. I wonder if Changi T3 SQ Checkin staff will allow me to do a thorough Luggage Tagging for my final destination to Pensacola, Florida, USA.

If this is allowed, will I be able to placed my purchased Duty Free en-route to IAH into my thorough Star Alliance Tagging Checked Luggage? I reckon that this will only take place upon clearing both U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility?

        Thanks

I did tried goggle for DME Airport website and I'm still unable to locate the smoking room within the Clean/Restricted Transit Hall.

          Thanks

Finally I managed to clarify about the Smoking Room within Moscow Domodedovo Airport Clean/Restricted Transit Hall from http://www.domodedovo.ru/en/main/infopass/8/7/

"Smoking at the airport terminal is allowed only at dedicated smoking areas. Currently, a special smoking-room is open in the post-control area of international departures. The arrival area for international flights and the departure zone for domestic flights are fitted out with ozone umbrella awnings, which enable to regulate air circulation and minimize smoke exhale effects on non-smokers."

Hopefully this is Indoor cos Moscow temperate is still Sub Zero during January 2012.

            Thanks

Yes there is a smoking room. But (since I don't) I can't remember if it is downstairs or upstairs the DME transit area. And yes, unless they are very late, they will let you out onto the transit area. The waiting area is very small, so I wouldn't go straight back in. It's a bit of a walk to the security check.

Yes you should be able to tag your luggage all the way to final destination BUT you will need to check it out at IAH, go through customs and re-check the bags in.

Make sure you have time for your connecting flight, the immigration line at IAH can be quite long sometimes.

I don't buy much duty free so I can't assist - but to save time, I would just buy it on the flight.

IAH is Terminal E for check-in.

You have my deepest sympathies on such a long flight - I do the same flight 4 times a year.

I have email Krisshop and awaiting for their advice pertain to the same queries.

Thanks again for the update & info

Thanks Matey! Greatly appreciated with your kind info. I reckon the first load from SIN-DME will be full as this are Code Sharing flight between Singapore Airlines and Transaero Flight No: SQ62/UN7062.

                    Thanks

If you're allowed to use the Transaero lounge - there's a smoking room in there.

Yes, you are right, fitraveler. The DME-IAH sector tends to be lighter but not true all the time. I've been on flights where both sectors are pretty well full. It depends on the day-of-week.

Awesome news thanks SQFlyergirl for the Information. Hopefully, if they allow me to use Transaero Lounge. Hopefully with 90 Minutes layover we have more time to rest than rejoin the Airport Security Screening processes before re-joining with the connecting SQ62 Boarding Gate. Past experience with 90 minutes layover and I'd spent almost 60 minutes in a very long queue for Airport Screening excluding walking from Terminal to the other....that takes almost 90 minutes of my layover time. if only back in the days where stopover over .... sleeping in the cabin for the whole duration of the 90 layover.
