  • Hilton Bangkok: Lounge Breakfast Severely Downgraded

This past weekend whilst in BKK I discovered that the exec lounge b'fast (which is nowhere near as comprehensive as the one at the proper Flow restaurant downstairs) has been severely downgraded.

There's now just a smattering of continental items on 2 trays, although cooked eggs are still available on request. All the items along the walkway (where the boardgames are) are no longer there. It is even worse than the Hilton PJ's assortment of continental items! (PJ's is pretty poor, although the main breakfast at Paya Serai downstairs would be my preference at this property)

I'm particularly disappointed because smoked salmon was only served for breakfast at the exec lounge. This is now gone. Quite looked forward to it as I'd grab a very light b'fast upstairs before heading out the door. Can't be bothered with the main one downstairs as I never find anything quite to my fancy.

Thumbs down to whoever made the decision to axe the proper exec lounge breakfast buffet. Will be diverting more stays to SPG's LM as a result (salmon freshly sliced in front of you)... which still has a great brekkie spread!

On a brighter note, Hilton BKK served some of the best canapes I've ever had during happy hour, including a wonton tom yum!

I wonder why they cut costs only now, seeing how most of the hotel rates are going up again after, what looks like, the worst part of the recession being over.

I don't see Bangkok Hotel rates going up at the moment, in fact the opposite.

Haven't checked the Hilton as I rarely stay there but the SGS and the Hyatt are still offering amazing rates at the moment of around THB 3200-ish each.

I was talking about hotel rates in general - no idea about the rates in Bangkok. The riots stopped me from going there twice now.

In future it might be better not to reply to threads when you have no idea what you are talking about.

As MAN FLYER mentioned rates in BKK certainly aren't on the rise.

Another example a room at the Sofitel Silom can be had for around $A100 per night - with further 'incentives' thrown in...

I'm sure any frequent traveller would notice that. But its bkk, where a mcdonalds meal can be had for usd3 to 4.
Greetings from SGN's Apricot Lounge, can see 9V-SRE (in Star Alliance livery) just taking off...

Absolutely. That's why it's a consideration I do take into account. And that's why the LM BKK remains one of my favourites. On my last stay at Hilton BKK, smoked salmon was still available and I know I'll be missing it in the future also. If someone's paying (presumably) for a room incorporating lounge access, the hotel can afford to put a couple of slices on the buffet spread imho. Or do it like the LM BKK where they can just shave it off the bone, and pack it up for the next day to minimise wastage.

I'll be at the SGS next week and will check if they also lay on the smoked salmon as I don't remember what I ate there last time. Think I was in a rush.

I don't stay at Marriotts (the closest I got to one was the Renaissance Saigon), so that doesn't affect my travel stay pattern. If anything, I'll only avoid them more in the future.

On another note, didn't see smoked salmon at the Sheraton Saigon either, but I have to admit it was my one and only time having breakfast at the main restaurant yesterday.

The breakfast at the SGS is the best I've seen in BKK.

Thanks HUGE AL, that was... helpful... but don't you only do SGS and Hyatt??

Trekkie: Hey, if we can talk about warmed nuts, we can surely talk about smoked salmon!

(in the context of breakfast downgrading at the Hilton BKK in comparison with other properties, however... wonder if 'Salmon Downgrading' deserves its own thread)

In BKK, it's only the SGS. Read the other reviews here and on TOF. The way I see it, why deal with mediocrity?
