  • Chicken Rice & Duck Rice on the Golden Goose: SIN-LHR-SIN on 77W J/F

    Introduction

I had to go to London again this month.

On business this time so I went alone.

I don't like traveling alone because travel should be a shared experience.

Nevermind, live it up in F... I thought.

Except that I have never tried Row 14 in J.

So wanting to be in a position to join in the "Which is the best seat in J on the 77W" debate, I decided to fly to London in 14A.

On the way back, I redeemed an upgrade to F.

As always, come back in 2 weeks to see the complete TR

      Changi Airport

      Thanks.

      Pre flight

As I left my place at 0700h, I took a limo to Changi.

If my wife drops me, she'll have the morning rush hour on the PIE to contend with on the way home.

Changi is not the best airport in the world for nothing. You can assume the pre flight rituals went smoothly.

      I let myself down by...

      1. not bringing my pet octopus along

      2. eating too much in my regular lounge. Carrot cake and char kuay teow

But anyway got onboard 9V-SWQ, boarding gate A2, without further mishaps

Push Back, Taxi & Take Off

We were parked next to 9V-SGE and I took these shots of her as we pushed back from the gate.

Haven't been having luck with the weather past few flights.

Did I ever mention that the A345 is my favorite SQ plane?

Gate A2. This picture is dedicated to Nick C for post #3 in this thread...

How many SQ A380s can you get into a picture?

This A333, 9V-STL, made way for us. Still haven't flown on one..

Had a drag race down the taxiway with this GA 738 that had just landed

And then we were thundering down the runway

Look at the spray at the leading edge of the wing. Amazing.

Thanks for the first part! Enjoyed it.

I love fried carrot cake! Is it served anywhere post security at Changi? I normally hop into the lounge - I'm not really familiar with the F&B in the terminals except for the occasional Starbucks .

Dan, you can head down to terminal 1 or terminal 2 public canteen for the carrot cake. If you happen to drop by on weekends, I can bring you along

I liked the char tow kway at the SQ Krisflyer lounge and the first item I hit for any breakfast trip. Although the last char tow kway was a bit disappointing. I liked the local breakfast variety, which I find the SATS kitchen doing a good job generally.

The chefs at the noodle and prata station are very friendly and helpful.

Coincidentally, I always have a habit of taking seat at row 14 and hope the ride was a good one.

Looking forward to your updates to this TR.

AFAIK, they're actually Changi staff canteens but the public can also use them (so there are discounted prices for airport staff with ID). The last time I went, they're not signposted but there are directions here.

Thanks for answering my question, LionCity.

                    Very hungry.

                      The Climb

So we took off heading south, making a 180° turn over one of the Indonesian islands before flying over Changi on our way to LHR.

And these are the pictures I couldn't take on my SIN-EWR TR because of low cloud ceiling...

The massive GE90s throttle back about now. We seem too low to be reducing power!

When I first flew the 77W, I thought *Oh Oh engine trouble*

                      Over Indonesia.. Bintan or Batam?

                      Then back to Changi

Bye bye Singapore.. we're over Malaysia already

                      Pulau Ubin..

                      I wonder what's for breakfast....

, I'm sure the food picture in post #3 would be considered by the International Court of Justice in The Hague as cruel and unusual punishment (against those of us stuck in the UK).

I'm 100% certain that 9V-SIA is too modest to mention it, but it's the DBS Asia Treasures lounge at T3.

                            Keep going mate
