    Australian Designers Take to the Skies on Qantas
    Sydney, 07 March 2007Qantas will introduce a new designer amenities collection, created by some of Australia's most recognised creative talent, later this month.
    Qantas Executive General Manager John Borghetti said the collection from Australian designers Marc Newson, Collette Dinnigan, Akira Isogawa and Peter Morrissey would be offered to First and Business customers travelling on Qantas international services from 25 March 2007.
    "As one of the world's top tier premium airlines Qantas is delighted to be able to showcase Australia's celebrated design talent to our global customers," said Mr Borghetti.
    "This new designer collection is the first instalment in a new luxury product strategy, spearheaded by world famous Australian industrial designer Marc Newson who was recently named Designer of the Year at the annual Design Miami event.
    "Marc designed Qantas' award-winning Business Skybed sleeper seat in 2003 and has since been guiding all of our product development to create a distinctive style in line with Qantas' premium positioning."
    Included in the First amenities collection are:
    - Collette Dinnigan-designed floral silk purse for female customers;
    - Akira Isogawa-designed, functional and stylish, zippered pod in chocolate suede for men;
    - elegant Akira Isogawa pyjamas in soft cotton with matching luxury eyeshade and slippers;
    - high quality hydrating products from leading French skincare house Payot Paris; and
    - other comfort items, including hair products from renowned Australian hairstylist Kevin Murphy.
    Included in the Business amenities collection are:
    - highly collectable amenity packs by Marc Newson - blue for women, grey for men;
    - moisturising products from Australian skincare range Ultraceuticals;
    - soft cotton pyjamas designed by Peter Morrissey and matching eyeshade on selected long haul flights; and
    - other comfort items, including Kevin Murphy haircare products.
    Mr Borghetti said that as part of an extensive upgrade of its international product, Qantas would also introduce a new range of luxury designer soft furnishings and tableware, including cutlery produced by Alessi and bone china crockery produced by Noritake, in March, followed by further enhancements throughout the year.
    "In May we are looking forward to extending our new designer products to our ground operations with the opening of new Marc Newson designed First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne.
    "We believe our new flagship Lounges will be simply the best in the world," said Mr Borghetti.

    So QF offering PJs in C. Will SQ follow?

    Rumours are abound that the new QF F lounges will have full silver service ala carte dining, ala LH FCL, with Rockpool menus.

    Great choice of designers - but will be sad to see the departure of those Oroton-designed kits.

        In First Class from Sydney to Bangkok QF1/Singapore QF31/Los Angeles QF11 QF107 QF149 and from Melbourne to Singapore QF9/Los Angeles QF93 you can experience the new tasting menu (also known as a Degustation) including caviar and selected wines to accompany the tasting menu. As always the customer has the ability to change the tasting menu to suit them and stop at any time.

        The Sydney First lounge is set to open on the 10th May with Melbourne on the 17th May

        All the new products commence 25th March on all flights - in just a few weeks.
        All looks pretty good. Mmm degustation menu in F and introduction of caviar. But, unless the poster also meant the return flight, doesn't make sense to only offer it one way? :S

        And apparently, F will have 4 kinds of champagnes - Dom, Krug, Piper and Veuve. Not clear if this is only for flights with degustation menus or all flights though. You get 1 type on each flight, not all 4 - they'd appear randomly I think.

        Flights listed appear to be their flagships. Shame that only the Asia-LHR-Asia (SIN and BKK) segments of the Kangaroo route flights get the PJs in J! Meaning if i fly QF10 SIN-MEL I don't get the PJs even if it's overnight. As always, people living outside SYD and MEL miss out...

              Don't know. They've only announced new lounges for MEL and SYD so far. I think it's only a matter of time since the QF/BA lounge in SIN was built during the last launch of new International Qantas Clubs (2003-4 IIRC), which included the ones in MEL and SYD.

                Yep - enjoy! Do post a TR.

                I hope by Piper they mean Piper rare though - Piper red can be had for like A$40 a bottle!

                  It would be interesting to see how BA compares with QF.. It has been a long while since I've flown the two... but I do know that QF occasionally has better meals than BA. BA First Suites are unique in that they are angled.. whereas on QF, they tend to 'stick' out...!

                    It's been ages since I've done either carrier in F so I can't compare their respective F products.

                    QF and BA in J provides for an interesting comparison. Generally, the soft product is infinitely superior on QF (much more imaginative catering by Neil Perry, more consistent FAs, AVOD - although I understand that the new Club has AVOD as well), but proper horizontal beds in Club World are the way to go for an overnight flight vs QF's Skyslopes. So the general rule in J is QF for a day flight and BA for a night flight. Having said that - I've got friends working for BA so if they manage to bid successfully for the flights I'm booked on I'd go for BA. Otherwise it's pretty easy to switch due to JSA.

                      I'm sure a certain film star would agree with that!

                      I don't think that saying QF meals are sometimes better than BA is saying much. As I understand it, BA spends far less on its meals that other carriers like SQ or (presumably) CX and this shows.

                        Shows how uh, accommodating the service on QF is.

                              It isn't mentioned, so I don't think so.

                              Hmm, just noticed that the porter service is only available to QF First Class and QF Chairman's Lounge members, not any oneworld emerald... Hopefully the lounge itself will be a regular F lounge and they won't build an inferior one for emerald-entry (ala BA F lounge vs Concorde Room).
