  • [LHR T4] SkyTeam Lounge

    Date/Day: 2 December 2009/Wednesday
    Place: LHR Terminal 4

    SkyTeam Lounge

Ok folks, it's time for something that I never planned – a visit to the SkyTeam Lounge at LHR Terminal 4. This will be my first visit into an airline lounge in a European airport. The lounge is located near the Starbucks café in the middle section of the whole Terminal 4 building and shares the walkway leading to its entrance with Etihad Airways lounge.

I was greeted warmly by a blonde receptionist and upon welcoming me inside, she also informed that I can choose to go to 'another lounge upstairs' if I wish. I am not quite sure what she meant by that, but I think she was referring to the Holideck Lounge (?). By the way, those plants by the wall are real.

Getting inside, I think the lounge is quite pleasant. It has a simple layout, adopts a modern décor and has a rather warm ambience. The centerpiece of the lounge is of course, the buffet spread table and the drinks station, whose stocks are constantly being replenished.

Visitors can choose whether to sit at the middle section of the hall…

… along the corridor next to the floor-to-ceiling window, which offers some nice views of the tarmac…

Seen here are Air Malta's and Air France's A320s, which were being docked at (probably) Gates 20 and 21 (or was it 22 and 23?). Since this area happens to receive a direct sunlight in the morning, it therefore requires the installment of those blinds.

Visitors can also choose to sit at the section further inside…

… where a secluded area is allocated for a self-service bar.

All seats are equipped with many power points too, which I found most beneficial.

There are also, amongst other, a reading section (which I think looks pretty much like a small library)…

    … internet/work stations…

    … and a gaming station.

The (gents) washroom is looking fine as well.

I spent 2 hours inside the lounge. What I did then? Well, apart from savouring the buffet on offers…

… the lounge offers a complimentary Wi-Fi broadband internet connection. Isn't that great? I happened to read many reviews that some premium airline lounges in major airports in Europe do not offer such facility or if they do, they will charge for it, but in this lounge's case it is an exception.

Having just arrive from a country with the slowest 'broadband' internet in the world (that is Malaysia) and the country that blocked every single websites that are deemed as 'non-halal' (that is Saudi Arabia), having to experience the broadband internet from British Telecom Openzone in the lounge is like the best thing ever LOL!

11:15 I started to make my way for Gate 12, where my flight was assigned.

SkyTeam Lounge, surprisingly pretty nice hey?

Was there about October last year. Found it really good as the staff were very attentive and kept coming to me asking if I needed another drink, etc. And best of all, I could get in with my FB Petroleum Club Card (since I lost my gold status with FB), which is normally not the case with other ST lounges (maybe a one-off thing, not sure).
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

That sounds like it's a few notches above the average European airline lounge. Well done on SkyTeam.

        Nice pics, BTW.

Thanks guys. I never been into any of the Star Alliance common lounges, but from the responses that I got from writing this one, everyone seems to agree that it is a very good lounge, especially considering it is located in LHR.

And I do agree with Pinkfloyd as well that the staff in this lounge really took good care of the foods and the patrons, as exhibited from my visit.

I'd be very surprised if such a big lounge lacks a shower facility..
