  • Upgrade costs on Air China for EG

    As per my other thread
    http://www.sqtalk.com/forums/showthr...hlight=beijing

I'm flying Air China soon and have been ringing the ticket office asking for the upgrade costs to Business class. When I first rang they just quoted me the difference between the published biz fare and what I paid for Y class, I rang again and gave my Krisflyer number as forgot the first time, enquired again and it was fair bit cheaper S$500 or so.

Waited a day and now the cost is very cheap, could be just timing of the flight or could it be i'm registered now as an Elite Gold so the fair changes?

Just wondering as i'm really still on the lower rung of Krisflyer and no PPS but it would be nice to think it does have some baring.

Your KF gold makes zero difference to the cost of the upgrade.

Airlines know you are a Star Alliance Gold, and like SQ and most other *A they treat them exactly that. On any airline, unless you're their Gold/whatever member, they are only giving you those services because they HAVE to not because they want to. People think otherwise I find, as a *Gold you are entitled to exactly what you have been told, priority standby/business class checkin or dedicated *Gold counter/Lounge etc.

As a BD*G travelling with CA from PEK-DLC (Dalian) three days ago, I was personally greeted by the stewardess in Y for being *G. Have never felt this *loved* by any FFP even though it was only my second time on CA (previously one J flight ex PEK-SIN with no greeting).

I still only got a packet of peanuts and a 7-Up like everyone else but I'll dream of CA PPS now... they also let me and a guest into the DLC First Class lounge (not sure if that's standard practice already, however)

It could also be a case of CA having no clue what they're doing.

Which isn't a bad thing, especially if it is to one's advantage, no?
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...
