  • Booking SQ flights through Expedia

I was trying to book ORD-KUL on Expedia and they gave me ORD-LHR (on VS) followed by LHR-SIN-KUL on SQ.

Now, the price is quite decent and the main reason I find it attractive is of course the chance to try the A380.

However, Expedia doesn't let me choose my own seats and instead my seats "will be booked by preference chosen" which in my case was window seat.

So I was just wondering, if I book this and give SQ a ring, would I be able to choose my own seat?

Or are all the cheapest Y fares not eligible for one to choose their own seats (like MH, if I'm not mistaken)?

    Would appreciate all your help!

OT: Asked this in the 747 thread but no reply.. Does anyone know how long the 747's will continue to serve JFK? Thanks.

You forgot to mention what class you are travelling on. I think the rule is that only itineraries booked on singaporeair.com, then you are allowed to choose seats online. And they will only entertain calls for seat assignments on Business and First / Suites. You will be able to choose your seats at the 48 hour online check in mark though, for economy.

Editted: Oops, didnt see the big Y there.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I think I did mention I was traveling in Y.

Are you certain that you can only choose seats through the official site?

You will not be able to select your seat if you are booking through a travel agent/Expedia. You will be able to do that if you book the flights directly through singaporeair.com even if you are travelling Y class.

Having said that, if you are a Kris Flyer member, you will be able to log on into singaporeair.com website and choose your preferred seat 48 hours prior to departure.

However, if you give SIA reservation office a call now and mention your window seat preference, I believe they will entertain your request.

Have a nice flight with A380.

You can choose your seat via online checkin 48 hours before departure but in my experience it's extremely difficult to get a good seat then as many seats aren't open for selection. Give SQ office a ring and ask them to put in a request for a window seat. It has worked so far for me.

If I book a Y ticket on Expedia, will it be eligible to earn KF miles?
Sorry, I did look at the ticket rules on Expedia, or called SQ before and didn't get an answer.

You might be okay. The ones I know you won't get for sure are the ones from lastminute.com, priceline.com, and those types of fares.

I booked YVR-HKG-KUL-YVR on Expedia for my flight in April. I will be flying with AC and CX. I get two confirmation codeS that I can use to log on to AC and CX to manage my booking.

For CX, I chose my seat request and special meal from the website whereas I have to call AC to select my seat. I'm not sure if SQ allows seat selection if you book on Expedia. It's better to check with SQ and Expedia first. Good Luck!!

@jani: If you don't mind paying an extra S$71 per pax per leg, you can also get an emergency row seat on the A380 which have a ton of leg room. You can request for this when you call to SQ.

That is a great idea. I have never sat in an EMEX seat. Is the window seat like normal though? Or would it be slightly off?

Try it on their website using your booking number and name used in the booking. If you are a Krisflyer member, your bookings will automatically show up when you log in - under "my bookings" section. I was able to select seats even though my ticket was purchased thru an agent previously (but then, I am KF member).

Alternatively, you can try using the 'seat pointer' on expedia website. But I think it's best to confirm with the airlines directly

In Y on the lower deck the EMEX rows are 44 and 54. 44 is above the wing, so that's all you'd see from that seat anyway, emergency exit or not, so if you want a view go further towards the back of the plane.

It's been a while since I last flew on the A380 with SQ, so I don't remember how it is in their case, but there are some a/c types where there is actually (almost) no window in the EMEX row at all, particularly if it coincides with being a bulkhead row. You usually won't have that problem on smaller a/c, the bigger it gets, however, the more likely you are to run into such difficulties.

Last, and most importantly, in my humble opinion, unless you are 6ft+ tall, you won't actually see that much benefit in sitting in an EMEX row vs a normal Y row at all, as the standard Y seat pitch on the A380 is pretty generous already. So in all honesty, unless you are a really tall fella or girl, I don't think it's worth the extra money.

I just went through the exercise of paying the extra AUD$57 for an exit row on the 77W SYD-SIN...

Pretty sure that my research for that showed that the "window seat" in that row (44) doesn't have a window...

No concern to me as I wanted/got the aisle anyway but a data point nonetheless!

I would have preferred the other exit row but I suppose as I am travelling beginning of April I might have been a bit slow off the mark.....those seats were all taken....

The weird part (to me at least) was that it was an entirely separate payment... not part of the fare purchase.... Just thought that a little odd - and a bit irritating for the "double handling" aspects...

On previous trips I booked through Expedia and was able to select seats at time of booking.. (even selected 11A on the 77W and kept it) but THAT ability seems to have disappeared now....

You can only select seats in F and J. Which is why you can select 11A.
