  • PVG (SQ826 / SQ825)

    Hi Folks,

I am thinking of going Shanghai, enjoying SIA's 50% off miles redemption, ending Sep 2009.

Can anyone tell me about the seats / dining / amenities for SQ826 (SIN-PVG) and SQ825 (PVG-SIN) for Biz / First Class?

Both are midnight flights, wonder if it's good to try First Class when it's a 777-300 plane on SQ825?

    Thanks.

SQ826 is B777-200 2 class configuration a/c, business class seat is the Space Bed. Since it is the midnight flight, the meal service will be either supper or breakfast.

SQ825 is the B777-300, 3 class configuration a/c, both first & business class will feature the old regional seats. also serving either supper or breakfast.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you know what is the menu for supper? Also, is it worthwhile to try the First Class seat on 777-300? I heard that it's not that good, might as well take Business?

        Sorry,

I do not have the latest menu, you can try look it up under the catering thread.

Since it is the old regional seat, I would rather just take the business class, there is actually not very much difference with first class.

Although the regional F seat is nothing much to boast about, but I concur with the others in saying that it's actually a comfortable seat for regional flights. I actually prefer it to the SpaceBed.

SQ825 will be changed into B777-200 3 Class configuration a/c in winter season.

I have an upcoming flight on SQ826 from SIN-PVG where the First class saver award has been issued. However, recently, on the same flight, the Business class saver award waitlist has been confirmed and have been told to issue the ticket by 17 Jan 2017.

The flight will be on B777-300 and an overnight flight where there will not be much service provided, and possibly sleeper meals. The miles difference between First and Business class saver is 15,000 miles.

Should I just folk up USD15 & save 15K miles to cancel the First class saver and go with the Business Saver or just go ahead with the First class saver award in which ticket has already been issued.

              Thanks for any advice!

By looking at the history, SQ826 was served with a variety of B777 including 772:

                https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/sq826

Yesterday was a bit unusual as it was served by 77WN (9V-SWY).

You can check the seat config online to see if the config is 1-2-1 or 2-2-2.

If the seat config is 1-2-1 it will be a flat bed seat and I would opt biz class and save a few miles.

But if it is 2-2-2, which means it is a regional biz class seat, I would take the First class and have a really good sleep, so you are fresher when reaching PVG.

But I must warn you that having only a 5 hours flight to PVG, you will only have a most 3-4 hours sleep only, regardless you fly F/J or Y you don't have enuf time to have a good sleep. Cheers!

Are all the old B773 (SY* series) used for SQ826 with the old original seats? I flew on SYF a few months ago and the seating was tired and uncomfortable. I seem to have read somewhere that some of the SY* series might have the older 77W seats when they were refurbished into the 77WR (or was it 77WN) config. Reason for asking is I'll be on SQ826 soon, and trying to manage my own expectations.

(PS: Thought this info was found on the SQ fleet thread, but it only listed 2 773 configs with SYF (edited, previous type "SVF" wrongly) having the upgraded Y. If that's the same config in the SYF (edited also) I took in Sep '16, then I don't see that the upgrade is...)

SYF has not been refitted with ex-77W 2006 seats in Y. That it is why in the 'SQ Fleet' thread section it is listed as Refurbed Y, which means new seat covers and screen, but the older seats, IFE system and IFE controller. Yes, the old seats are getting pretty uncomfortable.

The two planes in the second section, SYH & SYI, have been refitted with the 2006 seats that were removed from a 77W. That is why they are listed as having 2006 Y.

When you book a flight on a 773-300, you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the better seats and IFE. They do not assign the two better planes to any specific flights. It is pure luck if you get one.

Your post then becomes a little confusing as you refer to SVF which is a 772ER and a very unique plane. Is this just a typo, or are you also wanting to talk about SVF?

Thanks SQ 228. With your explanation, everything is crystal clear now. Let's hope I strike the lottery with SYH and SYI. SVF is totally a typo, I mean to say SYF. Happy New Year everyone!
