  • Firefly to fly Ipoh-Singapore route

    http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/i...ngapore-route-

KUALA KANGSAR, April 15 — The Ipoh-Singapore flight route that is expected to become operational in the middle of the year would be a generator of investment and tourism between Perak and the island republic, said Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
He said Malaysia’s first community airline, Firefly, was expected to begin operations from the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh to Singapore in June if all goes well.
He said Singapore authorities had approved landing rights and the state government was having discussions with related parties to realise the matter.
“This is a good venture to ensure that investment and tourism between Perak and Singapore can be enhanced. I thank all who have worked to make this happen,” he told reporters after the state executive council meeting at the Kuala Kangsar Town Council building here today.
Zambry however did not tell of the frequency of the flights or provide other details.
The Ipoh-Singapore route would provide much-needed breathing space to LTSAS for being under-utilised. — Bernama

I'm guessing if it does take place, they'll fly out of Seletar rather than Changi.

      Seems like more than Ipoh

Firefly has applied for seven secondary routes - those that do not fly from Subang - namely Kuantan-Singapore, Malacca-Singapore, Kota Baru-Singapore, Ipoh-Singapore, Alor Star-Singapore, Kerteh-Singapore and Terengganu-Singapore. Its primary route is Subang-Singapore.

      Seletar-Subang would be ab fab

Seletar or Changi to Subang - wow, now that's a real competitive advantage.

Liking this very much, let's hope timings are good and prices even better!

This is welcome news as Ipoh is an underserved market when it comes to direct air links.

Since Firefly only has ATRs they'll either have to go to BT or park at a remote bay and bus its passengers to T1/T2 as the jetways can't connect to the aircraft.

believed in the recent past Bangkok Air or something flies their DH8 in to Changi's T1 from Koh Samui.

Bangkok Air flew their ATR72s to Changi in the past. Now they are using A319s.

Firefly flies into Singapore starting July 1

SUBANG: FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), is expected to commence its Singapore flights on July 1.

Its marketing and communication head Angelina Fernandez said the airline would start with three daily flights to the republic.

After two weeks, we will fly four times a day to Singapore,” she said after the airline launched its inaugural flight from Subang to Phuket yesterday.

Fernandez said the airline was also looking at new destinations in southern Thailand.

“We are targeting Hua Hin and Krabi,” she said. Fernandez said she believed the Subang-Phuket route would be as popular as the airline’s Penang-Phuket route, which began operations in 2007.

“From the passenger traffic data, many foreign visitors fly into Penang for visa runs. With this new route, foreign visitors will have an option of doing so in the heart of Malaysia.

“With the convenience of our airport in Subang, getting around within the Klang Valley will save time and cost,” she added.

Those on board the first flight on Friday were Patong’s Deputy Mayor Chairat Sukban and Tourism Malaysia's Bangkok and Thailand sector director Iskanda Mirza Mohd Yusof.

“The Subang to Phuket route will increase accessibility between the two countries,” said Iskanda Mirza.

“Every month, 110,000 Thai tourists come to Malaysia. Southern Thais like to travel to Malaysia because it is affordable and near,” he added.

On another matter, Fernandez said the influenza A(H1NI) outbreak had not affected its flights.
