  • Considering Defection to BA Exec Club/QF FFP--need advice?

    Hi!
I haven't posted anything here in a considerable amount of time so despite being an avid SQ fan and a relatively frequent flyer on SQ, I might be a little slow when it comes to the SQ online community. And I apologize if this is being discussed in a different forum already or if this isn't the right forum for this discussion.

I know many other SQ Talkers here are quite frustrated with many of SQ's so called enhancements, including myself a PPS/Solitaire member of almost 12 years now. I am considering a defection to either QF's frequent flyer program or BA Exec club as I will be moving out of my LHR homebase at the end of June to IAD. I would consider defecting to CX MPC but feel as if they do not reward their frequent flyers and travelers in the Business Cabin very well compared to say LH or BD. Is this a misguided belief? I'm not too keen on defecting to a US legacy carrier like UA/US or AA as I will have limited domestic travel and the domestic travel I do would be on shuttle flights to NYC and Boston. Most of my travel currently from LHR between the cities of HKG on VS/NZ and SIN on SQ. I currently double dip my miles with LH M&M with econ flights to SQ and biz flights to LH. After being based in IAD my flights would mainly be to SIN and HKG.

What do others on this forum think of BA's or QF's program? What i found interesting as well is how much easier it is to qualify for gold if one resides in continental europe. Is the redemption rate on either program as good as LH which I have found quite generous?

What I currently like about BA is their schedule ex-IAD with two evening flights that connect seamlessly to QF's A380 11:30am flight to SIN allowing me to do a full days work in Washington. LH on the other hand leaves at a particularly early 5:00pm with an entire days wait to connect to the evening LH flight.

It is more than likely I will probably stay with SQ despite their bullying of loyal customers, given their convenient EWR-SIN nonstop, but would just prefer two longhaul routes with a comfortable connection, versus taking amtrak or continental connection to EWR.

Sorry that was so long! Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you fly business/first it is easy to get status on QF, but earn/burn rates are horrid (especially any seat awards).

A novice at this but I think ANA deserves mention if u are going to be based @ IAD and flying to SIN. (if u do not mind the one stop @ NRT)

CX seems to be very generous according to Flyerfly. He was upgraded to CX Gold "despite being 7000 miles short of the qualification threshold". Lucky him

That sticky covers mainly alternatives to KF when continuing to fly on SQ or other *A members, which isn't what OP is focussing on.

I thought you were supposed to be all chilled out from your vacation.

I have moved from KF to BAEC since the complete downgrading of KF and have found BA Gold to be much better. I have the lower European qualifying level which is a big help as you really need to fly in the premium classes to get Tier Points and all my work travel is in economy. The Earn/Burn rate is not so good but the upgrading from premium economy to business class can be excellent value. But for me the most important thing as I travel economy most of the time is the improving the travel experience and with check in at the first class desks, access to the first class lounge (and access to the business class lounge even when not flying BA) and definitely priority on opups, I think BA does this much better than SQ.

As Kiwi has already mentioned, the earn/burn on QFF is horrendous. Status benefits are pretty good OTOH, with status relatively simple to achieve and retain.

Which airlines will do a SQ*G status match?

Thanks everyone for the advice! and i in response to HugeAL i did check the sticky already. im now leaning towards ANA despite the early afternoon departure and the somewhat less desirable regional C seats between NRT-SIN and the not so fun overnight return in those seats from SIN-NRT as I am not able to find any cheap C class fares on BA/QF to SIN.

In response to NickC however are tehre any airlines that do status comp for PPS solitaire? i fly approx 3 rts LHR-SIN and one LHR-HKG a year in C.
