SIA inflight supervisor saved the day

As the flight seats were too small for a bulky Caucasian, he inadvertently took up another passenger's seat. Finding herself uncomfortable, she reported the matter to SIA staff, and was promptly upgraded to First Class. That's service with a smile - and heart. -myp

    my paper

I WOULD like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Singapore Airlines (SIA) inflight supervisor Peter Soong, who came to the assistance of my sister and me during our flight on board SQ631 on Aug 3.

We were on our way home from Bangkok, and we were given seats A and B. Seat C was occupied by a Caucasian passenger whose size was beyond description. As the seat was too small for him, he took up a quarter of Seat B, which my sister was in.

She tried her best to endure the encroachment, but half an hour later, she began feeling numbness in her right arm.

Nice story but why the need to mention it was a Caucasian pax...

Because "my paper" is targeted at a reader base who generally find "The New Paper" a little too intellectual...

Friend who used to work at SATS told me, oversized passengers are requested to buy a J class ticket or 2 Y class tickets.
Not sure how this can be executed well though...afterall, the weight and dimensions of the passenger does not have to be keyed into the booking system !

actually then it has a case for air asia to charge by weight if exceeding say 90kg etc ha ha. But seriously its should not be taken as a discrimination against severely obese people, but this people must realise also their imposition on others - whether by air or by land transport - and it does actually cause and impose on the normal weighted person or the slimmer ones. It should be a practice for airlines to ask the more obese to buy 2 EY tickets or a J class seat. Imagine being literally squashed by sitting in the middle of 2 severely overweight pax.

my sentiments exact! I would find this particularly offensive.

I agree too. Makes it sound discriminatory to a certain group of pax.

I don't think Milehighj meant it to be discriminatory.

I also do empathise with the feelings of the feedbacks as I was addressed in all sorts of name as an Asian student in a foreign country many eons ago.

It may not be the most politically correct or sensitive way of putting it in my honest opinion.

Hope we all keep our civility in this case.

Certainly, obese passengers should be required to buy either 2 Y seats or a J or F seat.

Seemed perfectly clear to me... But thanks for clarifying anyway.

but but.. I'm medically obese, going by BMI, but I can fit into a SQ Y seat comfortably without affecting my neighbor.....

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines

I can't believe a UK airline would say that to you! That's very unkind of them
