  • Yay, MAN got some additional flights in Jan !

They have managed to persuade Head Office to rustle up a 777 for the first 3 weeks of January due to heavy advance bookings. So we will have a daily nonstop flight for the first time, even if it is only for 3 weeks.

From 22 Jan down to 5 x weekly nonstop 772ER.

    Oh what utmost generousity.

The fleet situation is a disaster.

Because they are now drastically short of a/c due to the horrendous delays to the A380. Against promised deliveries SQ have arranged the sale of a number of 744's, most of which they are committed too and can't wriggle out of. A couple more are due in for checks as well I believe so it's not good.

Are we talking about the first (April 2006 -> December 2006) or the second (December 2006 -> October 2007) delay here?

Perhaps pushing back the delivery dates for the 77Ws was initially good from a marketing perspective, but bad overall for its route network. Last I checked, -SWA was built some 8 months ago.

Yep they initially pushed back taking the first 77W's in the hope that they could still get the A380 out earlier, or at least at the same time so they wouldn't take any of the gloss off a flagship launch of the new RAFFLES, First and Y products alongside the First to Fly stuff etc..

They have obviously held back this amazing new First product that is going in the A380 so they still have something up their sleeve, but I fear such is the farcical story that is the delays on the A380 then it won't have as much of an impact.

It would be an understatement to say they are not impressed with all this.

It looks like SQ have promised to free a 772ER for another 2 days a week from next years Northern winter schedule to give MAN a daily nonstop service to SIN.

(crosses fingers that it does happen and the 77W stays away...)

The first delay was Feb 2006 to April 2006.
The second delay was April 2006 to November 2006.
The third delay was November 2006 to December 2006 (seven months for most later frames).
The fourth delay was December 2006 to October 2007.

All the more reason for a MAN SIN DO?

I wonder if this is because they scheduled the 3x weekly 77W to ICN-SFO. Hm...
