  • Has anyone ever tried Embraer's E-jets?

I have tried it before, it's Hong Kong Express Airways' E170 from HKG to Nanjing.

Very bright cabin, dazzles your eyes and a very spacious seat.

When you look at the aircraft, you will think it is so tiny for flying up into the sky, like a model, but once you getting on board, you'll find it's very comfortable! Excellent configuration by the Brazilians!!

That's my own opinion, what do you think?

i don't like E170 outside. But interiors are usually very spacious and attractive!
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

Last year, during my 2-week "exchange programme" in which I visited my company's Boston HQ, I spent the weekend in New York City. I flew by JetBlue and the aircraft I rode on was... Voila! Embraer E-190.

I liked them certainly. I'm not sure what the market dynamics are like, such that a 100-seater can suit the JFK-BOS-JFK route so well. Most airlines in Asia/Pacific use the Airbus A320 or the Boeing 737. Can anybody here well-versed in aviation market dynamics please explain?

          727's!!!!

By the way, Air Canada Jazz, AC's regional subsidiary, uses the Bombardier CRJ Series.

              Dear The High Flyer,
Maybe I can explain to you that the differences between the B737,A320 and the Embraers and how it's located in the market.

Actually, the line of the Embraer jets are so called regional jets, where Boeing and Airbus' are called the main jets. Although their size and capacities are very similar, meanwhile, they use for different purposes. Let me explain what is a regional jet first:

For regional jet: The flight must depart from a metropolis to a destination which is far from the main city,or a domestic flight. Take Hong Kong as an example, surrounding HK, there are many countries, such as China and Taiwan. If we use E-jets as the operating flight departing from HK,the destination should not be Shanghai,Beijing or Taipei, because these are the metropolis and the capitals, and the destinations should be Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuhan or Kaoshuing, Taichung etc... because these are the cities that surrounds or far away from the metropolis, that is what we called the regional cities.

For main jets: The flight is usually designed for shuttling between the two big main cities, such as Deutsche BA's London to Berlin, CI's Taipei to Hiroshima etc...

So, in conclusion, Embraer E-jets are specially designed for the regional jets' market in which maybe the airport of that particular destination do not have the advanced facilities to serve the common Airbus and Boeing's main jets.

Hope it can help you to know more about it!!!!

P.S. The Higher Flyer, I have E170's brochure, if you have any interest, you can give me your e-mail address and I can send it to you!

I don't think the differentiation between the E-190, A320 and B737 is so much of the type of cities that are being served as the addressable markets in those cities.

As an example, JetBlue flies the E-190 almost exclusively on the US Eastern seaboard, yet many of the cities are large cities, eg New York City, Boston and Washington DC. I don't know if you classify them as metropolis though. On the other end of the spectrum, Malaysia Airlines deploys the B737 "main jets" on domestic flights.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but JetBlue's strategy of using E-jets on short hops is unique. Most other major airlines use either the B737 or A320. There must be a reason for buying the smaller-capacity aircraft. The ability of the airports to serve the "main jets" is not relevant.

Really.......I know they retired the 727 fleet as they took on the A320 (which was some time ago) are you not thinking about the DC9-30?
