  • Secret Society - An Undesired SIA feature

If you can afford to fly Business or First Class, it doesn't mean you get full access to SIA's offerings and services.

You need to be a member of the "Secret Society" and be in the know or you will not get to enjoy the full benefits available.

It all started when New Suites was launched a couple of years back and the swivel seat didn't come with a great leg rest. SIA added a foldable foot stool. Crew never offers it and only people who know about it, will get it.

Then someone at SIA came up with the brilliant idea of adding 3 mattress pads for 6 suites. In case you want to sleep more comfortably, you have to be in the know otherwise you will not see these beautiful comforters.

Now SIA is hiding amenity in Business Class and only those in the know will get them.

I like the idea of speak-easy and "Secret Society" when I go to a hidden bar. But when paying top dollars for Business or First, I don't wanna play games.

Interesting topic here but it’s hard to quantify who/when gets what. As a data point,I had an European flight 2 weeks ago and the kind IFM made sure himself or the chief serve me Dom throughout the entire service. And the IFM came to my seat and discreetly handed me a green amenity kit (the set that they used to hand on those ULH US flights). The return leg last week, I had totally no extras from anyone on the flight. So the inconsistency or rather the specials that you mentioned, could be at the discretion of the IFM / Cabin Crew?

Not sure any other members who has travelled recently can provide their experience as data point if they have similar experiences?

The J class amenity kits (remember the Penhaligon ones from the trial?) are now on request only. I guess that is one of the examples mentioned.

Reason given by SQ is to avoid wastage as many pax don't use them and they will not pass such a kit to other pax so it would be thrown away. Fair enough in principle, but they could go through the cabin and offer them instead of being on request. This way only folks who know can ask and get one.

We all are happy that your LPP or TPP treatment on board is over the top.

It doesn't address the topic of service features nobody knows about though.

Your "data points" is a bit more bragging than getting a view whether SIA should increase transparency and communication so passengers know what additional amenities can make their flight more comfortable.

Dom in J and green amenity kits in PY are not perks available upon request.

I recently had three flights in Business Class. SYD-SIN, SIN-CPH, CPH-FCO. No-one in business was offered the green amenity kit (or told of its existence) by cabin crew on any of the three flights. I asked for one because I knew it existed and they gave me one. Mind you, it had already been opened (plastic security tab was missing) and items substituted inside, which I didn't find very professional. As soon as I was given it, other passengers started to ask about the kit to the crew and why they weren't told about it. Kind of created an un-flattering environment in the cabin, in my opinion. Not what I associated with SQ ever pre-Covid.

It doesn't and the reason is that they didn't go back to Poltrona Frau and paid for the same (expensive) leather.

The stool wasn't planned but only added after passengers were not happy with the quite limited range and use of the legrest in the swivel chair.

Indeed. I didn't get the sarcasm.

My flight was on 9V-SKU which I believe was the first aircraft that was delivered with New Suites. During the Covid grounding, SQ performed a 'touch-up' program for the cabin but the stool didn't get any attention/improvement.

Interestingly, on my first flight in the new R product a little while back, the crew told me this stool was actually intended to be used for companion dining. Surprised that was the motive - does not seem to be so safe.
                              Fly well,
