Great news! I am sure it will be appreciated by all the families and students shuttling back and forth between LHR and SIN during the holiday season.

SQ will temporarily operate the world’s shortest A380 flight between SIN and KUL starting from 5 Nov (SQ126/125) on selected days as per SIA flight schedule for crew familiarisation.

However, SQ might operate the superjumbo on SQ106/105 on 4 Nov based on booking.

It's more for crew familiarisation and retraining and for the aircraft to essentially test fly it over sometimes as the planes have been sitting on the ground for almost 2 years. Likely the A380s may fly to BKK too for such flights

BA is similarly scheduling the A380 on short-haul routes in November for crew familiarization, albeit longer ones than SIN-KUL:

It's good for the A380s to be back but for SQ it would still be some time before its pax load on these A380 flights in the short term would even be breakeven, and hence fairly costly to operate.

Looking forward to the opportunity to fly SQ's A380 again, but I think it will be some time before I pack my bags to travel. If I do, it will be for vacation travel, as I don't foresee any business travel in the near or even medium term. The business world has adjusted to operating via Zoom and video calls, even for very senior level meetings. I think the pick-up in business travel will be very slow and gradual, compared to the surge in holiday travel caused by pent-up demand....

Please tell your bosses to let you travel as we're missing your trip reports!

Thanks, Squeezer! I miss writing them and hope to be back in action sooner rather than later!

I know friends who have already taken advantage of the new VTL travel destinations and booked their end of year holiday flights, and at least one other SQTalker is already traipsing around Europe on vacation (You know who you are )...

                        SKV for the SQ126 tomorrow.

Seems like these are the first two to be reactivated. I heard its at least 4/5 A380s coming back in total by the time Sydney is up and running in December.

Wonder how SKQ's refit is coming along?

As for now, 5 A380s have been reactivated. Can only confirm SKU and SKV. Not sure about the rest.

Your business world may have done mate, some of us are already back on the road and enjoying it. Albeit looking forward to when the additional 'faff' involved is over. If I didnt know you, I would be guessing you work for one of these paranoid/risk averse large companies, where the current easy option is to say 'No' to everything, for ever!.

                            As for Zoom and Teams......

Anyone who says they can replace face to face meetings long term for certain markets/segments is in cuckoo land, or working for the aforementioned large companies. I was in Rotterdam last week at a large marine event and it would be an understatement to say people were pleased to be seeing other people face to face again.

Sadly Singapore and S.E. Asia are off the radar until next year at least.

Apparently only 3 A380s have been reactivated and flown on the KUL sector by SKM, SKU and SKV. A 4th A380 will be ready in early December
