It has been a year since I stepped my foot into Macau. With the long weekend, I decided to pay a visit to the bustling casino-city of Macau yesterday. The landscape has indeed changed quite dramatically since last year, with the completion of new hotels and casinos (Wynn Macau Resort, Crown Macau, Grand Lisboa, etc. Some which are going to open up later this year (including the Venetian Macau and MGM Grand).

I am not rich enough to board the helicopter (just 16 mins from HKG), so, took the usual mode of transportation: Turbojet from the Macau Ferry Terminal at Sheung ***. Return trip ticket at the cattle-class is HK$300. For Super Class ticket (yes, they do have it), it would be HK$200 more (I think).

I arrived just in time to board the 12pm ferry and arrived in Macau at 1pm. Weather was not so good with showers almost on and off until night time. Here's the pic of the Turbojet parked at the ferry terminal in Macau:

First stop would be the Wynn Macau Resort...just 5 mins away from the ferry terminal. Each casino does provide a free-shuttle bus every 5 mins or so, which makes it convenient for tourists and punters

Here's some pics of the stunning Wynn Macau:

Note the building next to the Wynn Macau...that is going to be the MGM Grand

Next stop...the Grand Lisboa owned by Stanley Ho, the gambling King of Macau Just to show how impatient he is in getting the casino operating for business...when the construction of the hotel itself is still undergoing, as u can see in the pics below.

The old Hotel and Casino Lisboa:

    The new Grand Lisboa:

It is a very grand casino...but...only the casino tables are ready. Some restaurants in the upper-floor are not even ready, with the final touches still being put in place. What ticks me off is that the hotel employs mostly mainlanders who DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND ENGLISH This really annoys me...not to mention some ang mohs

Another special feature of the Grand Lisboa is that there is a theatre with a 60 mins performance by Japanese Adult-Video actresses...priced at HK$250 , starting from 3pm all the way until night-time.

After the Grand Lisboa, I took the bus back to the ferry terminal and boarded another bus to the so-called 6* Crown Macau. Little did I know then the site turned out to be where the old Hyatt Regency was They demolished the Hyatt and built the Crown there. There was 5 storeys of casinos...but the feeling of grandness couldn't surpass the Wynn or the Grand Lisboa. Didn't take a pic of it as well since it was raining heavily at that time.

Some pics I took while at the bus...
Goddess-of-Mercy Statue overlooking the harbour front.

    The Macau Tower:

Enough surveying of the casinos...and soon enough it was time to return back to HKG...this time onboard the other ferry...New World Ferry...back to Tsim Tsa Tsui. Here's a pic of the economy class seat, which is far better than the Turbojet. How I wish every economy class seat (including CX and SQ) look like this.

Thanks for sharing YK@HKG. I see, its mainly visiting casinos and not into those historic areas of Macau and up to the Macau Tower. Well, Macau is so near HK so its no problem visiting there often. Been to HK for quite a couple of times but never been to Macau.

Thanks for the writeup and pics, YK@HKG! I've only been to Macau once and that was a long time ago (10+ years I think ?) and it's changed so much (not surprising really).

As far as short boat journeys in Hong Kong go, the one I enjoyed the most was from Tuen Mun to Central. Is that still running ?

I had to go to Hong Kong on several occassions in the last couple of years for work and always wanted to do a day trip to Macau but never made it. Anyway thanks for sharing the pictures at least I now know what I missed.

No, that's not the site of the old Hyatt Regency. The Hyatt is still where it is (opposite the Crown Macau), but has been rebranded to Regency Hotel.

During construction, before Crown Hotels took management of the property, that was supposed to be the Park Hyatt Macau (even had posters around the construction site advertising this). Then, one day, all this came off, and it became under Crown management.

Hmm...thanks for the clarification. I thought the New Century Hotel is opposite of the Crown?

                  nice trip report, YK@HK !
I like the Wynn resort better than the Lisboa, it looks more classy.

Yes, it is. The New Century, Regency, and Crown are in a "triangle".
