  • SQ1/2 No Longer Flagship Route to SFO? (SIN-HKG-SFO)

    Hi!

Just noticed that SQ1 and SQ2 are no longer flying the HKG-SFO sectors? Nor are they assigned to SIN-SFO direct.

I know that towards mid-Feb when COVID began to ramp up last year, the HKG stop on SQ1/2 was cut and the aircraft switched to A359 (LR) from the 77W. Meanwhile, SQ32/33 kept flying with ULRs. So I guess the flagship SQ1/2 route became a direct SFO service with A350s, but no F is a weird choice for a flagship service?

Also, what's happened to the route since? I only have the free FR24, so what I see is that 78X have been operating SQ1/2, but only SIN-HKG.

    Just curious!

It's too early to tell as SQ1/2 was not operating due to Covid. Would have to wait till the situation improves by year's end or early 2022 to see if SQ1/2 would be back.

I don't think it'll be back for the foreseeable future.

Given what's going on, demand for HKG-SFO is going to be weak for a while.

Does CX still fly to SFO?

CX now do not fly to SFO direct but flies to LAX on some days. United flies SFO-HKG-SFO currently.

Believed SIA will keep this route although for now during the covid and until more people fly, then SQ will resume this flight. This is mainly because for such 5th freedom right is very hard to get and once SQ give this up, it will be very hard and long time needed to get back such a flight, or may not even get it back.

I am confident and hopeful that SQ1/2 will resume HKG to SFO. The temporary suspense is due to COVID-19 policies for crews in HK and USA and SQ doesn't want to deal with the inconveniences until after the pandemic.
