  • Do seats Fill up Fast 24 hours before flight or are they blocked?

Hey there, I think this is my first official topic post on SQ Talks forum! I just wanted to know whether do seats generally fill up significantly faster during the last 24 hour window before the flight? I ask this because I checked the online seat maps several hours ago today and there were still a good 20-30 seats empty. But suddenly I checked again tonight and there's only around 5. Even in seats in the areas near the lavatory where you think nobody would want to sit have all filled up. Weird? Would love to hear some opinions! Thanks a lot guys!

Well ... there are people with confirmed seats but not make seat assignments until check-in time. So under 24hrs, a lot of them would have checked in.

When i was an SQ ground staff, we would assign seats 3 days prior to the flight. Bassinet seats, families, and groups. We would also block seats too and release it on the day of departure. And sometimes, we would "open boarding" to not let the system take away any pre-assigned seats or have other airlines transfer their passengers onto an SQ flight.

Yeah, often prior to OLCI opening up 48 hours before the flight, I see substantial numbers of empty seats on what I suspect is going to be a full flight or reasonably full. Then when OLCI opens, there are far fewer or almost no spare seats to move to. Based on queues at the airport, I don't think all those passengers have actually checked in, but a seat has been allocated to them as a default, which I think is in line with what Avenger 777 is saying.

Thanks for your answers guys. Yeah I see what you mean. I was certain that no human functioning brain would have selected the seat next to me, but alas, it's 'occupied' on my SQ 222 Flight to SIN.

Flying out of SYD at Easter would be similar to flying out of MEL I imagine. Never expect a spare seat anywhere as often they have a waiting list and are upgrading people in Y with status in order to jam more people into Y. School holiday joy!

It was packed to the brim in Y. Like 110% packed! Yeah hopefully Easter is the only exception for this crazy passenger load. And prior to that there was another A388, just 3+ hours ago. Crazyy!

Easter, early December to late January, all Australian school holidays, beginning and end of uni semesters, whenever there are times that draw international students to or from home, summer in Europe, weekends... The list goes on. Australia is a market that SQ works very hard to be a part of and they know how to fill seats.
