  • JS: PEK-FNJ...

This is was one of the more memorable trips for me. Anyone else taken this route?

    PEK-FNJ:
I was "lucky" enough to accompany a special group on a short trip to the DPRK. This was certainly an unusual trip for me, especially as it took place just at a time when tensions where high... I did not dare to take picts inside the plane which I really regret now...

Check-In: Efficient and by one of the most attractive Korean ladies I've seen so far... (did not dare to take a pict of her though)

Ilyushin Il-62M: (by far the oldest plane I've flown on...)

The flight was quite full, mainly with diplomatic pax, Kim's VIPs and their families... had a chat with some guys from the German embassy which was quite interessting... otherwise unspectacular flight:

Food: Unidentifiable meat dish with rice but quite tasty and plenty of really great NKorean beer with my seat neighbour...
Service: : Lovely FA's , all female, spoke very good English... as good as SQ or any other top carrier in Y. One thing I noticed was that they have nowhere to sit during takeoff and landing... only handles to hold on!!!
    Hotel:

    Awesome, SQOZflyer.

Your pictures are fantastic, but I'm just as eager to hear what you thought of the DPRK experience. Please do share.

A short and sweet trip report. How was your trip to North Korea anyway? It would be nice to have more pictures out there. I find your night picture very very underexposed, did you take the picture with flash?

I'm sure SQOZflyer took as many as he felt comfortable taking.

Actually, I think it does a good job of describing the contrast between the neon lights of, say, HKG and SIN and the nighttime skyline of FNJ.

ThanksDELETED I had to take the rest of the pics with a rather cheap mechanical camera (3 pics, including the night pic are taken by that camera) which explains also the bad quality of the night pict... but I can confirm that the night-skyline and "nightlife" isn't much flashier than the pic shows as far as I've experienced it... though playing pool with much beer and soju (Korean vodka) with the North Korean guides and embassy personell can be much fun...

I'll post some more pics tomorrow...

                Excellent report SQOZflyer.

In a way I am not surprised to hear that the FA spoke pretty good English.... considering how the North Koreans show themselves to the rest of the world (eg the do very extravagant/lavish shows for the outsiders).

I wanted to crack a joke about the unidentified meat but I shan't as it a bit of a tasteless toilet humour.

I was tempted to do a tour of North Korea. Here in the UK, I know of a tour company that goes there....but after having much thought, I think I better catch a glimpse of it via the Demilitarized zone.

Any more stories or pictures to share?

p/s - did you sweep your rooms for bugs? (not the living type)

What? In Pyongyang, the capital of capitalism, where there's a McDonalds, Starbucks and Free wireless at every street corner?

Ok, here are some additional impressions from my trip to the land of the Kims... For obvious reasons, there are some pics I can't post... (don't wanna get anyone in trouble in DPRK) DELETED. However people expecting an unbiased photoreport will be dissapointed. Obviously we were only allowed to photograph what the guides considered appropriate... apart from the numerous monuments I was able to take a few shots of Pyongyang streetlife...

The "Great Leader" himself (note the Koreans in front)

The Tower of Juche(DPRK state ideology) idea

                          lol

                          Pyongyang Streets:
