  • Strange Timing of SIN-MLE Service SQ452/451

Hello, just wondering whether anyone knows why SQ has changed their timing slot for SIN-MLE from one night and one day to just one night one? I know that MI serves the day flight, but isn't this timing the preferred and most logical timing that SQ and its customers would want? SQ452 departs SIN at 2045 to arrive at 2210 and SQ451 departs MLE at 2325 and arrives at 0710(+1). (I'm trying to decide between which airline I should take.)

SQ452/451 is probably all about connections.

I just returned from Maldives earlier this week.......arriving in Male at 22:10 gives you nowhere but a nearby hotel to head to until carrying on your journey the next day. It does mean, however, you can head straight from the office to your hotel in Male/Hulhumale straight away on a (for example) Friday night.

I agree with you that MI schedule is good, but you could argue that you loose two days of the trip. Landing mid-afternoon in Male gives you a great chance to catch an ongoing speed boat and end up at your final destination in time for sunset but the day is gone. Similarly your return to Male would be first thing in the morning and you loose another day. Of the two choices, SQ gives you more time in Maldives.

On this same basis, the Tiger flight actually has slightly better timing than a night SQ one.

I don't think many people would be able to sleep and be 'somewhat' recharged the next day on an overnight flight with SQ. Imagine the 11:30pm flight, how disruptive your sleep would be. If you minus breakfast which is presumably 2 hours from landing, that only gives you around 2/3 hours to sleep. And that's not taking into consideration how long they'll take to dim the cabin for rest after take-off.

Booked myself on SQ for the SIN-MLE leg and MI for the MLE-SIN leg, mainly cause I'm strategising my leave.

Only morons go for a breakfast on such a flight: I paid Business Class so I need to get a 5-dollar-breakfast out of it even it takes only 5 minutes and is served 120 minutes into arrival for no purpose other than disrupting your sleep.

The pro gets ear plugs and a sleeping mask, picks a window seat and sleeps all the way.

MI is horrible. Who wants to fly in their "Business Class" for four hours?!? The hard and soft product are an absolute joke in comparison what you get on SQ - and the pricing is the same...

Yea, I would prefer SQ over MI any day! Seems like their J is the same as any other regional wing. Their business class hard product needs to up its game. SQ competes amongst other national carriers as one of the top, MI should follow suit.
