  • The disappearance of F to Europe

    Hi all

I've noticed that this year, as SQ replace their 77Ws with 787 and A350 aircraft, F is disappearing from the European schedule.

That means no more F on flights to MXP/BCN, MUC/MAN, AMS or even DME.

As far as I can see, post July this year F will only exist on the A380 routes - LHR, PAR, ZRH and FRA.

Does anyone know if SQ intend reintroducing the 77Ws to European routes once they reburbed the F cabin?

    Thanks

SQ doesn't have any 787's. When they do get them they won't be going to Europe.

I doubt they would go back to the 77W. They wouldn't have gone to the A350 if they intended to do that.

Increasing SQ F has that "been there, done that" feel to it. They need to up the wow factor, starting with a renovation of that by now very tired-looking Private Room, the F&B on board and maybe include round trip airport transfer to justify the huge price premium. But then, I don't know of anyone who fly paid F. I will fly them on First Saver but even this is getting less as I think J is most of the time good enough.

I think the J product on SQ is as good as F on many European and even Asian airlines. As the result, I suspect the demand simply isn't there except for the A380 ports.

They could, and should, get rid of F on a number of routes and with the 350's seem to be doing so. I'd be surprised if MUC keeps it (it might just be worth it with 4 seats) going off the loads when I've flown it to/from there for the last few years but maybe it will remain as long as a certain board member is still there.

I think I can stick my head above the parapet on this one...

SQ51/52 (SIN-MAN-IAH) is due to revert to the B77W.

EDIT: I understand there has been a jumping of the gun and it remains A359 for now.

First Class doesn't make sense from an economical point of view: J has a much better yield and offering First can only make sense if you are able to charge so much more that you can beat the J yield.

SQ was very smart and thought about occupying the space between First Class and a Private Jet and meant to charge a lot more for Suites than airlines can usually command for First Class.

As we all know, the positioning went wrong as most First Class flyers were able to defend the status quo but could not justify flying something posher and while Suites is available for normal A and F fares there is still a lot of people in Singapore who would not do Suites (while being entitled to fly First).

I think the 4 seat F cabin is a good compromise: You can target to sell those seats and cut out free loaders (or low yielding mileage junkies) and you still have the positioning of a premium airline that is able to offer First Class.

Nevertheless, SQ should review the product offering and think about some improvements to show where First beats Business.

The new A380 First Class will also be a clearly differentiated hard product - even beating Etihad's Apartment.

F might become larger irrelevant, unless big improvements are made.

I mean, now the premium middle-east airlines are launching Business Class products like this :

                How can SQ compete?

Are you not invited to the launch of the new Business Class this summer? SQ will show you how they will compete - QR beat them by a couple of weeks but that doesn't mean that QR are the only thinking about how to evolve.

Quite excited to find out what improvements SQ will make to differentiate themselves from the ME3. Would they prefer to go with more seats or better hard product?

Don't forget about the new joke of a J seat offered by EK on the 777

Direct aisle access for all J pax is overrated, right?

As much as i would love to see an innovative suite like JCL like QR, I dont think thats gonna happen because SQ is very very practical when it comes to their traditional seat designs. Im certain the new generation will still be a 1-2-1 forward facing non suites JCL

I don't think it would hurt or be difficult to start adding sliding doors to the current seat design though... that would effectively make it a little Suite right?

Just give me a seat that allows for a comfortable lounging position (current one doesn't quite work for me, not enough recline and feet get squished) and doesn't force my feet at an angle into this small cubby hole. Ohh and a somewhat softer sleeping surface would be welcome.
