Don't they already have 30 787-10s on order?

Boeing the Front-Runner for $13.8 Billion Singapore Air Order: Sources

The carrier also is poised to take at least 19 of the Boeing 787-10, the longest Dreamliner model, the person said.
So not the entire batch of 30 are destined for Singapore Airlines then? Could the remaining aircraft go to Scoot and/or NokScoot and/or Vistara?

According to Bloomberg, the consideration is for 20 777-9s and 19 787-10s. And yes, SQ already has 30 787-10s on order. Not sure if they are adding to this.

Not surprising at all. The Singapore Government has had invested heavily in T5 with a capacity of T1 to T4 all sum up together. Direct and ultra long flights are supposed to fill up the capacity for T5....

Good to hear that Boeing jets are likely to continue serving with SQ (purely a sentimental sentiment, i admit). Report also mentions that SQ is reviewing plans for the 777-10, which will probably replace the A380. I do wonder what SQ will do with so many jets though. Global market is struggling. My layperson view was that the A350s would render the need for midsize aircraft nonexistent. Especially with the initial batch of 787-10s on order. Just pure conjecture: could SQ reduce its A350 order?

That's really interesting and I am sure looking forward to the B777-9 experience and the wider fuselage. The A359 gets on my nerves and I try to avoid it as much as possible after more than 15 rides. On the other hand the A380s would be missed if they will be replaced. I hope they have a better product than the current Suit for 2017 refits! And amazingly I feel the 77WR with the 4F configuration is out of this world. 2:1 lavatory ratio and the most attentive service ever plus the cabin ambience feels ultra private. Imagine this on a 779 so hope they do bring the 779 onboard! It would be a vast improvement over those narrow A359s!

On the issue of cramped-ness, assume you're thinking about the Y cabin on the A359? Because you did talk about F, which the A350s don't have.

Do bear in mind that Boeing widened the 777X fuselage only about 12cm wider (5.87m vs 5.96m) than the current model 777s, to accomodate 10-abreast seating with 17-inch seat widths. Currently, SQs A359s feature roughly 17.5in seats and the 777s (both 2006 and 2013 products) feature seat widths of 18in (approximately). I highly doubt SQ intends to remain 9-abreast on the new 777s, which will mean they are more cramped in Y than the current birds.

Sorry if i missed the point. Haha.

So far I have not been on Y on A359,always on J and one odd surprise trip on my birthday on PEY to HKG. The cabin ambience is less condusive and I felt the aisle is very narrow and seating very close to my Neighbours. It doesn't help that Row 11/12 tapers to the front and those overhead bins feel very close to my head. And the lavatories are pathetically small even in J. And the aircraft is not as quiet as the hype about it is supposed to be. I'll much prefer its older Brother A380 anytime. The point about J/F on 777-9 is, I suppose SQ will keep the 4 across layout intact and passengers will enjoy bigger cabin ambience and perhaps slightly wider seats and hopefully bigger lavatories!

Looking at the likely delivery timeframe of the 777-9s and the number of them, looks like they will substituting the 77Ws for those core destinations with sufficient demand to fill in their larger birds. 20 777-9s to replace 27 existing 77Ws - if we add the 7 359 ULRs we pretty much have a 1:1 substitution. Depending on the fate of the A380, we could see quite a shrinkage in the capacity of the long haul fleet.

There are currently 53 772/773/330s for another 50 non-ULR 359s to be delivered, looks clear the role of the 350 is to replace these 3 types, again, no growth here, which would point to the 787-10 joining the SQ fleet rather than Scoot and being the only net capacity growth.

Of course (admittedly this is mostly wishful thinking) we could see a longer term commitment to the A380 as the flagship or perhaps an additional order of the eventual A350-2K or 777-10x.

                      Really interesting times ahead!

I agree these are first world problems! But coming from someone that pays for the fare myself, every inch matters! Especially for someone that originates from SIN with SQ's fare at it's highest!

Regardless, this is still good news with the order and keeping my fingers crossed that SQ doesn't head the same direction as CX in their cost cutting strategy!

                              My 2 cents.

SQ will defs go 10 abreast (3-4-3) on the 777-9/10(if the 10 materializes) and 3-3-3 on the 787-10.

I don't think the 777x are replacing the 77W. They might replace the 77W but I believe the bulk of them is to replace the A380s.

By the time the 777x enters service, SQ's A380 will be hitting 9 to 10 years. Giving the 2nd hand market for the A380s is not positive and the glut of 380s from EK, SQ might be better off getting ride of the earlier.

The 350s will be the mainstay of the long haul fleet.

The 787-10 will allow for some expansion and replacement of the regional 772, maybe some A330, 773.
