  • What is "Smooth Handling"??

Anyone heard of the smooth handling note that occasionally gets attached to bookings? Seems as the lounge/ ground staff are already aware of who has 'smooth handling' for the day and enhance the experience a bit, accordingly (e.g. Permitting extra guests into the lounge).

Any idea why SQ does this? Nonetheless it's amazing of them to do so, and shows they're doing a great job taking care of pax. Well done SQ!
    Fly well,
    Travel safe,
    And have a pleasant journey.

It may have to do with the program they have called Accenture (I think I have the right spelling?) where such details are stored and updated in a database. While SQ would have a more gentler, spin-friendly way of describing it, I think the objective is to make sure the extra attention goes to those who actually deserve it and not those who constantly demand it without any cause. It might also really be of assistance to staff in order that they don't accidentally "press the wrong button" with certain "interesting passengers." While some people may not deserve extra care, if they create a huge scene it makes the experience for all the other passengers in the cabin unpleasant. Certain celebrities come to mind...

I've heard of a hotel using the code "TLC" for "highly sensitive customers".

When i worked at SQ, this meant it was a previously mishandled passenger.

I got an interesting promise on check in at DUS just now. The system told them that on my previous flight last year from CPH-MEL that my luggage didn't make my connection in SIN. They apologised and promised to make sure this time that it makes the connection. Seems that luggage can also receive "smooth handling."

UA's terminology is "extend all courtesy".
