    how difficult is it to change Changi's IATA code to SGP too?

                  Off topic: does anyone know how the ICAO code is derived? Seems a bit random - the only pattern is that WS is designated for Singapore's airports. But I can't find any pattern as to why it should be WS. Curious.

                    W is the region prefix
                    S is the country code - 'S' for Singapore, 'M' for Malaysia etc.
                    We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.

                      Thanks, Nykelaz. The second alphabet is not really a country code (well, it is and it is not! ). E.g. the WB prefix includes Brunei and East Malaysian airports and WA and WI covers east and west Indonesia respectively - if my geography is correct.

                        The 'B' is actually Borneo. As for why does Indonesia have two codes, I don't know the history either
