  • Seat Size - How small will it get !!!

I know this is topic everyone loves to rant - Seat Size / Space

The way things are moving like 10 abreast on a 777 being a norm or some airline taking to even 11 a row on 777/a380s and I'm not even talking LCC, it really seems scary and sad. Plane manufacturers are making planes more comfort using ambient lighting and lower air pressure with newer planes but the Airlines are making it more uncomfortable with the seat size / space. Asking me to choose between lighting ambient and air presure over 18.5in width and 31 pitch to 17in pitch and 28 pitch I'd choose the older planes.

This looks like Hong Kong shoe box housing (sorry no offence to HK) where property owners and developers are just blaming the market and doing anythig to sell - just to sell regardless of the size.

When will the shrinking stop? and who is to saywhat is a reasonable size? should there be governance on this? Can there ever be rules to protect people? I believe in Human equality but then again not all Humans are equal in size / height and budget so its royal mess.

The only reverse in this trend is from Bombardier on their C-Series plane where the seats are 18.5 and even better middle seats are 19" so tjere is reason to choose a middle seat now - http://www.cnbc.com/2016/07/11/

How then we as consumers can make a difference / stand to tell the industry enough is enough (but on the other hand are we also willing to pay?) I know its an open market system of willing buyer willing seller but that not really true as most people end up in a "boh pi-an" (no choice) but to take situation.

I'd really like to hear from all what you think?

From the seat shrinking perspective I do respect SQ in this area for not giving in too much unlike the more established carriers, but also how long can SQ hold out? Loyality? Price? Looks like price is always the winner and everyone is the loser

For a PPS member you seem to be awfully concerned about SQ's Y seat...

PPS also sit in Y too outside company dime or even company short flights. So I do have my concerns. By the way my concerns is not on SQ but rather the aviation industry as whole but I do fly SQ often (in y too) to be concerned.

The bigger question is are you not concerned your next seat is going to shrink and as consumers what can we do?
