Singapore Airlines: no plans for business class amenity kits, pyjamas

Singapore Airlines is one of the relatively few premium international airlines not to hand out amenity kits for business class passengers. None of those little designer-branded bags packing with upscale skincare products – let alone pyjamas, for that matter.

Those are decisions which sometimes confound passenger expectations, but Singapore Airlines says it's all about spending money in the right places – and amenity kits and PJs don't fall into that box.

For our valued PPS members here, have you ever been disappointed because SQ don't have PJs on board?

With Amenity kits, I recalled you will receive them when travelling on Economy Class overnight, so why there's none for Business Class? Is it not at all or the kit is just the same as Economy Class for overnight flights?

Finally I suppose SQ is differentiating its J product with its super wide seat over all others, not with Amenity Kits and PJs which if you can afford J ticket, you won't care too much about them.

On my last flight in J they handed out slippers but not the pouches. I was told they discontinued the pouches after introducing the slippers.

I was in J on ADL-SIN, SIN-LHR in late August, and then MXP-SIN in late September and was given the slippers and amenity pouches on all 3 flights.

I don't miss the toiletries as you the lavatories are always well stocked in J, but I do miss PJs on red eye flights. It does impact the on-board experience and having a proper sleep and arriving relatively refreshed is definitely a part of it, together with arrival shower facilities. To their point on investing in food and beverage, not sure where the dollars are going.

On regional South Asia flights they have seriously cut down in J with after take off drinks not being served anymore and meals downgraded to 'light dinner'.

There are no amenity pouches in J. You receive eye-shades and slippers or previously the socks. Currently the socks are still available on most flights. Not sure if they clearing the stock of socks.

In Y its the socks/toothbrush in a pouch.

Do I miss an amenity kit? Surely not. I got already a collection of such kits from various airlines back home which eventually end up in the rubbish bin. There is hardly anything inside I would use onboard. In the meantime I don't take them anymore. I prefer the concept that SQ is providing amenities in the lavatory. Less waste.
A PJ? Anyway, I would not wear them onboard, just the imagination to get changed in the tiny toilet is putting me off.

No more cloth bags? I re-cycle them to pack my nitty-gritty stuff like power adapters and cables, very useful. Wished they would give them out in different colours so that I can differentiate them!!

I can always find a use for such kit bags......either computer stuff or general storage. LX were good for a while dishing out metal "pencil cases" with pictures of their aircraft on them.......so my son uses them for school.

My wife generally uses much of the others for her "stuff".

Agreed. They're rather useful for storing stuff which is why I like keeping them. You didn't think SQ was THAT generous to introduce something but not take away something in return, did you?

Currently they are still distributed. But as I said not sure if they gonna be phased out or if it is an either the socks or slippers. I have seen flights were they distributed both.

I don't think the amenity kit is a must have in J as long as the washrooms are well stocked as they are now. Although the amenity bag would be a good marketing tool - they can be reused for toiletries or electrical/chargers bag and seeing the SQ logo will remind them of the airline.

The switch from sockettes to proper slippers in J is a very much needed one .
