  • Scoot's 9V-OJC and 9V-OJB Out of Action Fri/Sat 19-20/6/15

Scoot's two (2) newest metal was out of action this weekend impacting flights to/from HKG, SIN, PER with many angry passengers at these airports. At HKIA, the police were called in.

9V-OJC was delayed 36-hrs and 9V-OJB was delayed 21-hrs. No wonder SQ offloaded these metals to Scoot.

That's the consequence that you will need to face when you are catching budget airlines.

From the video clips that shown, we see Scoot has provided meals for passengers and offered Singaporeans to pick up their bags and go home to sleep.

That's reasonable and safety needs to be every airline's top priority. If their planes are not ready, they should not fly.

A lot of passengers yelled 'We need to go', but since Scoot has no other planes available, how they can go? Of course if you are catching Singapore Airlines instead they will try to put you onto subsequent services where seats are available; yet once again if you are not KF Gold, *A Gold or VA Gold/Platimum, or your booking class is below W; then you will still have to wait longer. (Perhaps they will give you hotel)

Isn't it a big alarming that the new metals could be so unreliable?

I think every new aircraft type needs some fine tuning first or second year they are in service.

Scoot, being a LCC, they will not have that much spare resources to keep old planes once they have been replaced.

Therefore unlike its parent Singapore Airlines with their A380s, SQ was able to source spare aircrafts to run A380 routes; and that means when there's technical problem, passengers will be left waiting.

Similar events happened to DY as well with their B788; and you will never hear NZ's B789 got similar problems. I am sure if one or two of NZ's B789 is out of action, they can simply tuck a spare B763 or B772 to replace it immediately.

And the fella who yelled something about let's all go to the runway. Let no flight leave Singapore.

              Seriously.

              How stupid are you?

Although a delay like that is hugely frustrating, some of the things said by the passengers was just ridiculous. I feel bad for the staff there getting verbally abused by the passengers, it's not really their fault and there's not much they can do about it. On another note the Boeing 787 is really shaping up to become a lemon, with two incidents in two days.

He could have got his accomoation and meals provided for if he did what he said he will do.

Surprising that the airport police did not step in. Seeing how a gathering of 5 or more people is considered rioting in Singapore. The hashtag guy isn't helping the situation at all.

To be fair, everybody should have (but nobody ever did) read the conditions of carriage. I'm sure everything was stated clearly there. And if everybody read the CoC, thought about their expectations and looked at the price, they'll probably not fly on and LCCs.

Not to sound rude, but you get what you paid for. Can't expect to pay peanuts and expect to receive Chilled malossol caviar with melba toast and condiments

Totally agreed and I hope the Airport Police will investigate this incident.

I agree with the point you get what you paid for - especially those who always shop around trying to get the cheapest deals off budget airlines, the risk for delays for LCC is high and you should allow yourself plenty of time for delays like this.

However, I wonder if I am on ScootBiz will the compensation/remedy package be higher than those on Economy - since ticket price on ScootBiz is comparable to Flexi ticket on SQ?

When emotions get the better of oneself, all logic goes out the window.

Am not sure what Scoot was telling the pax over the period of delay, but I hope that they did not give the pax a run-around or provided expectations that they did not know if they can be met. It requires a well-trained personnel to be able to handle a situation, and it must be managed before the emotions meter hit the red end. As anyone can observe, once the pax get emotional, there isn't much one want can do to calm them. One strategy is to divide and conquer, separate the locals from the foreigners and give them different solutions to address specific needs. Of course, all this is only possible if Scoot realises that PR resulting from these events affect their bottom line on the long run. Maybe it's SQ's strategy to clearly differentiate the airlines but it's a heck of a way to do it!

                              My two cents.
