  • A380/77W OnAir WiFi

Hello there once again! After trying to get the full range of WiFi usage rates on SQ's website, I was unable to find any. Does anyone here have a link to the full range of rates especially if one is using OnAir as a service provider?

    Hi hybridace101!

I used this on two occasions (77W in April 2013, A380 in June 2014).

On my flights with wifi, the OnAir wifi was charged by MB of data used (with no time limit).

    Some indicative pricing:

5MB for USD 5.99 (USD 0.15 for every 100KB subsequently)
10MB for USD 10 (USD 0.10 for every 100KB subsequently)
30MB for USD 25 (USD 0.085 for every 100KB subsequently).

No time limit, multiple devices ok but only one device at a time, using a one-time userid. Userid valid only on that flight.

Not sufficient bandwidth for video streaming/youtube or video chat, but fine for basic web surfing, some limited Facebook, and very good for WhatsApp.

Have a look here for more details:

$6 (or £3.5) barely enough to upload 2 instagram photos. I hear other providers are more generous with $40 (£23) for the entire flight. I have seen that some passengers were awarded free 15 minutes or a few MB or so.

The flight crew provided me with the promotion cards last few flights - it worked as recent as last month. Was able to do FaceTime with the family...! Have done this on both the A380 (Suites) and 77W (First)

So I am guessing those in Y will have to pay up for the first minute or MB they use?

It's 'for pay' in all classes... however you can ask for the promotion cards. If you ask nicely they will give you one (or more...)

Paid like US$17 for internet on entire leg of NRT - SFO on UA. No data limit, but speedtest giving only like 0.5Mbps and 1s pings. Was able to do internet radio streaming.

I paid a similar amount for JFK-SFO on DL. PR charges $40 (£23) for an entire leg's WiFi but SQ must be raking in cash for overcharging by the MB, given that OnAir also provides WiFi to PR.

I can't imagine cabin crew would be too excited about the advent of inflight internet. Just another set of complaints to deal with if it doesn't work.

I'm not sure why anyone expects any free bandwidth when the likes of LX only offer an hour per passenger in their lounge at ZRH which would surely be cheaper to provide when on the ground. The people in the lounge have either paid for J class flights or are *A Gold. What I do suspect though, is that all these arguments about wifi provision will seem a bit silly looking back in 10 years' time!

What routes were these on, please?

Also, I have not seen the 30mb option on any of my recent flights, only 10mb...

Lastly, are the promo codes very long? Or just random short codes?

Random codes. But I can't remember how long - maybe 10 characters.

Nope. The last time I really looked into it was about 3 months ago when I made a trip to IAH (which I'm doing again this week). If the plane offers OnAir, I'll make sure I take a look on the options.

These days because I'm a Starhub subscriber, I can roam on OnAir for S$25/day unlimited data, so for long flights it's a pretty good especially if I really need to track a sports game or a event while on the plane (God forbid that I read my email).

Oh, you have the Starhub trump card

No 30MB option makes Kyo sad...

Hopefully, Singtel offers something better than the S$40 / MB by next year when I have my long trips.
