  • SE Asia beach in May/June

After the, errrr, success of my last ask, I'm once again turning to my esteemed SQTalk brethren to ask where I should go on holiday!

Looking for 4-5 days of beach in SE Asia in late May. Beach, pool, spa, luxury, cheap local eats, and reasonably easy to fly back to LHR. A child- and Russian-unfriendly location would be a bonus

My default is Phuket (Khao Lak to be precise - peaceful but accessible, luxurious but affordable, nice beaches), but would be prepared to be convinced about Malaysia (does M'sia even do cheap luxury and clean beaches?), or even Vietnam/Philippines (but where to start?). Bali feels a bit far though

    Thanks in advance!

Don't want to disappoint you but the experts say that it's El Nino year, so the haze may be back (earlier). With the prevailing south-west monsoon (usually starts late May), you may want to consider somewhere apart from the west coast of Malaysia.

You should try Krabi, it's really pleasant and quiet. And far less touristy than Phuket.

That's cool. No disappointment. So, East coast is haze-free?

Yup, I definitely get off the island as soon as I land. Personally I like Khao Lak - it's easier to get to than Krabi - but, in view of CarbonMan's comments, should I just head over to Koh Samui or somewhere else on the Gulf instead?

If you can get to Khao Lak/Phuket, you can get to Krabi (or Koh Samui) just as easily. Even easier if you're flying TG throughout.

I like Kuching. There's plenty of non-beach nature park activities too

There's no telling how strong the wind will blow and how widespread the fires will be. During that period, the prevailing winds will blow from the south to the west. The source of most of the fires are in the eastern side of central Sumatra.

The further you are from the source of the fires, the lower the chance that you'll be affected.

Oh man, that bad?! So maybe I should think Bali, then? Weather should be nice in May/June, no?

That's either a blessing or curse, depending on how dirty your mind is

Bali will be in the dry season - perfect for surfing. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g2...hen.To.Go.html

Thanks for the tip. I am heading there tmrw and have not much of an idea what to do there except for what someone wrote in their TR (which is mostly food related), any suggestions?

It's mostly about the food - seafood, laksa, kolokmee. The cultural village and orang utan sanctuary are ok touristy stuff to do. Take a stroll down the waterfront and "old town".

                          Where you staying?

4 Points is our choice this trip as we have to do a day trip to Sibu as well on Saturday. So it's only Sunday we have in KCH until 6pm...

Is the cultural village the one in Santubong? Kampung Budaya Santubong? Any seafood kelongs near there?

4 points is in the middle of nowhere. I'll recommend the Pullman
