  • Video TR: London to Newark in British Airways First

    Hi all

My latest trip report is now available to view here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cumey_7sdho

This was a great flight aboard British Airways First Class. I flew on the BA 185 which is the 11am departure from Heathrow to EWR. The report covers the CCR at Terminal 5, departure, onboard service and the cabin environment.

    Some points about the trip

    - service in the CCR was efficient and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were nice, as was the Laurent Perrier. However the main CCR was very busy, as was the terrace
    - boarding was quick but the flight was delayed by 40 minutes due to a problem with the fuel system (we were on G-ZZZA which is the first 777 BA took delivery of). Yours truly took this opportunity to invite himself to the cockpit and discuss the forthcoming Super Bowl with the Captain. Oh, and to drink more LP GS
    - New First on this route, with Thales IFE. Both in excellent condition and worked perfectly. I watched 'Rush' and a couple of episodes of 'House of Cards' (they have the whole season 1)
    - Food was very good. I decided to delay eating until about 2.30pm London time (we had become airborne at midday) as I know from past experience this means the crew can use the steam oven (of which there is 1) for you which makes beef very moist and they can almost do it medium rare. This worked perfectly and my beef was delicious
    - My flatmate and I bought Ginger Beer from the Pret in T5 and persuaded the crew to make 'Dark and Stormies' with the Zacapa XO, somewhere over Newfoundland which was a splendid idea. BA should add them as a cocktail offering
    - Service was excellent despite 13 out of 17 seats being taken in the F cabin
    - We had great views of Manhattan on approach, and an excellent weekend in NYC afterwards

Hope you enjoy the video and feel free to ask me any questions!

    Ta

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. 17 F seats is a lot to fill!

After all those drinks, I'm surprised you could make it out of the aircraft, then again I didn't see any footage that you did! Nice TR!

Thanks for the comments! Yes I may have been "refreshed" by the time I got to Newark but fortunately made it through immigration!

So if you don't delay your eating time, the steam oven is not an option for people in F?

Not quite. On the 77W you will have your food steam cooked. The issue is there are only so many ovens and if all passengers dine at the same time, your food is cooked in the same oven. Hence you may find fish and beef being cooked in the same oven for the same length of time.

Irrespective of the dish, you want an oven to yourself. Hence by delaying your meal, you increase the chances of it being cooked as appropriate to the dish.
