Thanks for posting. Also lack of mention of a new F design - which is surprising as this is far less competitive than current J is among the competition.

I'm just curious. Is there a need/demand for premium economy on SQ flights? Although SQ Y is still Y, it is still one of the better Y products out there.

It might be true that some of the J passengers might get cannabalized. But at the same time, as a passenger who flies Y more frequently, I welcome the idea of a Y+ seat.

Recently travelled on SQ Y(last time I did was on the ill-fated 747 though I got off at TPE). Otherwise have always been on either budget airlines and other full-service airlines. I'm pleasantly surprised that SQ's seat is really more spacious (in terms of seat pitch).

While having a meal, when pax in front did a little bit of recline, it's still quite tolerable. But on CI, any bit of recline from the front and I can forget about having a meal or moving out to the washrooms.

The danger of J PAX downgrading & premium PAX wanting to be upgraded from Y = not much money to be made?

If it's all forward facing and they wanna keep the 1-2-1 layout, the result would be close to the current Cirrus seat as seen on CX new J.

The Sydney Morning Herald show the Suites and comments:

The current first class cabin on Singapore Airlines' A380 superjumbos features private suites. The new seat designs can be retrofitted on to the A380s, the airline says.

Does this mean SQ is coming up with a new Suites product or are they replacing the Suites with the new F product?

F will replace Suites. We will see F on all new A380 and then SQ might refurbish existing ones.

But that itself is a herringbone. Reverse herringbone in fact. But didn't SIA say it is not into the herringbone design?

They really need a business class product which optimizes the use of space in the aircraft. The space is prime estate.

They could go for this reverse herringbone design though it wouldn't make SQ look like an innovator or sorts. (My fantasy carrier uses the Cirrus seats) or SQ could go for the Staggered layout like Thai Airways/Etihad/Asiana QS/ANA, or follow JL's newest business class. It would fit the 350/77W.

The 1-2-1 config on the 77W are a bit of a waste of space. I think it is fine for the 380.

Current SQ longhaul J is a reverse herringbone in the bed position, and takes the appearance of a normal seat when upright. Is there any clear evidence that it occupies significantly more real estate than a CX Cirrus, or similar?

Very much agree with you on that point. I wouldn't pay for Y+ on SQ because I am already happy with their Y which is at a similar price to their competition who are in many cases offering a far inferior product or service.

SQ and CX are both using 77W and premium cabins are occupying the very same space:

                            SQ can fit in 8 F and 42 J

                            while

                            CX can fit in 6 F and 52 J

Diamond Seat is taking up approximately 20% more space. That's quite significant. Cirrus Seat is superior to the Diamond seat and they can sell ten tickets more. Win-win.

Looking at the seat maps? SQ offers 42 seats in total (just behind the F cabin and the 2nd cabin between Doors 2-3).

                              Cathay fits in 53.
