I'm flying to LAX on TG or OZ and I believe I will be entitled to two free checked luggages (23kg each if I fly Y, 32kg each in business).
However, I have to make a domestic connection. If I opt for US Airways, I don't anticipate any problems as they still allow two free bags for a Star Silver like me. Taking US however would involve stops on my itinerary, whereas the domestic segment is nonstop on UA or CO.
On UA/CO, they have recently reduced the free baggage allowance to only one!
My international and domestic tickets will be issued separately. In the past, TG had always been able to check me through even with this set up.
My question now is, will I have to pay that "second bag fee" when I check in at TG?
Or do they now apply the new IATA baggage rules? I believe under this, the rules of the "most significant carrier" is adopted. In this case, it will either be TG or OZ as they are the first carriers on my itinerary and the ones with the longest segments.
