  • Hilton and DoubleTree to open on Sukhumvit Road

Near Emporium and Phrom Phong, which is the next stop up after Asok. The Hilton would be interesting if it's a decent place.

I couldn't help but smile at the claimed opening dates. When will they ever learn. Hilton and Starwood property opening dates in Thailand are about as realistic as Airbus and Boeings delivery dates for new aircraft.....

Hilton has signed two management agreements with TCC Hotel Group a subsidiary of TCC Land Group for a new build Hilton Hotels & Resorts hotel and a conversion project to be rebranded as a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. Both properties are due for completion in 2012.

The two hotels will be located on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, a short walk from the Phrom Phong sky train station and adjacent to the popular Emporium Shopping Complex.

Including these two new hotels in Bangkok, Hilton Worldwide portfolio in Thailand now features five hotels currently open and three additional hotels to open in the country during the next two years.

Andrew Clough, Senior Vice President of Development – Middle East & Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide, said, “TCC Land Group is a very substantial hotel owner, operator and real estate investor both in Thailand and abroad. These agreements are the first collaboration with TCC and we are delighted to have secured this mandate from such a prominent group. This collaboration will also enable us to bring to bear the strength of Hilton Worldwide brands, and capture a broader market segment through the introduction of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand, which will bring a relaxed, lively and refreshing option to the current hospitality offerings in Bangkok.”

Construction is already underway on the new-build, 24-storey Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, which will offer 287 guest rooms including 35 suites. The hotel will feature different food and beverage outlets including an all-day dining restaurant, a bar and a stylish lobby lounge.

Leisure facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art health club and a luxury health spa.

Meeting and conference facilities at the hotel will include a main conference room of 465 square meters and meeting rooms totalling 697 square meters.

The hotel will also have a fully-equipped business centre and an executive floor.

The DoubleTree by Hilton, Sukhumvit Bangkok hotel will reopen in 2012 after a conversion that involves a comprehensive multi-phase redesign and refurbishment of the guest rooms, food and beverage outlets, conference facilities and public spaces. The hotel was previously the Imperial Tara Hotel Bangkok.

The 24-storey property will feature 182 modern guest rooms including 12 suites. Food and beverage outlets will comprise an all-day dining restaurant and a lounge.

Leisure facilities will include an outdoor swimming pool and a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art fitness centre.

The hotel's meeting and event facilities will include a main conference room of 512 square meters, which can be divided into three meeting rooms, as well as a fully-equipped business centre.

Hilton Worldwide currently operates five hotels in Thailand: the newly opened Hilton Pattaya; Millennium Hilton Bangkok; Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa; Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa and Conrad Bangkok. Conrad Koh Samui is scheduled to open in June 2011, while the above mentioned Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok and DoubleTree by Hilton, Sukhumvit Bangkok are due for completion in 2012.

Not only in Thailand. I've long regarded those opening dates to be merely aspirational.
All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.
