  • Types of Economy Award Tickets

    Hi,

I am looking to possibly spend some of my airmiles on a trip next year. I have been looking at the types of tickets i can get and how many miles i would need. This is what i got back

One-way Economy Saver Award Ticket 47500
One-way Economy Standard Award Ticket 95000
One-way Economy Full Award Ticket 188000

Can someone tell me the difference between the Saver, Standard & Full tickets please?

    Thanks

They book into different fare buckets (hence have different availability - with more seats available for "full" awards naturally.

I believe there's also no enroute stopover permitted for a one way economy saver ticket, whereas one is permitted for standard and full.

Standard and Full economy awards are probably not the best way to go spend miles IMHO

Ah so there are less Economy Saver Award Ticket seats on the aircraft?

      How do you mean please?

      Thanks for you help

Yes, for any given flight, they are made available less frequently, and they disappear more quickly.

Those mileage requirements remind me why I've stopped accumulating on KF. Shame really, as KF was decent for a UK customer before the massive devaluation of the program.

Myself i am not really familiar with all these schemes. I only really fly internationally with Singapore Airlines to Australia. When i fly around Europe i use budget airlines, usually EasyJet. These don't have mileage programs, i dont think so anyway.

Do you think i would do better in another scheme?

          Thank You

En route stopover - for example, Melbourne-Singapore-London one way. On a saver one way, you wouldn't be allowed to stop over in Singapore, (a stop over means more than 23hours 59 minutes between flights). You'd only be permitted to transit, whereas you would be able to spend a few days (or weeks, if you so chose) in singapore if you had a full or standard award.

Just read up the full terms for the number of stopovers you'd be allowed:

            0 for one way saver
1 for one way standard and full
1 for round trip saver (in the above example, you'd be allowed to stop in singapore either on the trip out or the trip back, but not both ways)
2 for round trip standard and full (in the above example, you'd also be allowed to stop in Singapore on the way back too)

in addition to the above, you can pay 10000 more miles per stopover to any of the packages above

Note: when you do take a stopover, the airport tax payable also changes.

I think you would. The redemption rates for KF have become ridiculous; it's as though ( ) SQ were discouraging mileage accumulation on their flights. For an SQ Y flyer (like me ), BD or one of the US FFPs offer a better earn-burn rate. (I discount AC, because they consider SIN-DPS/MNL as crossing two zones and so extract more miles on a redemption -- and those are my favored regional redemptions.)

Seems like you have a cache of KF miles, though. I'd try to redeem those; with travel picking up, I can't see SQ becoming more generous with redemption opportunities. Perhaps on one of your UK-Oz trips, treat yourself to a nice stopover in SE Asia? Intra-SE Asia redemptions are one area where KF has remained relatively competitive.

Your options depend on your mileage balance, of course. Let us know, and I'm sure the folks on this board would be happy to offer suggestions.

                My take.....

Saver = The only one you should redeem
Standard = If you redeem this, you need your head examined
Full = If you redeem this, you don't have a brain

Whilst I agree with your assessment, 9V-JKL, there are a few fortunate people with particularly 'well-endowed' KF accounts that seem more and more willing to spend on Standard redemptions on the 'new J' in particular. My take on it is - if it's for a special occasion (e.g. a honeymoon or something similar), then fine - if you've got the balance, and it's going to make the experience *that* much more perfect, go for it.

Full awards should allow redemption into R, in my opinion. I still don't know anyone who's done/admitted to doing a Full redemption...

Thanks i might look into it. Do you think i would be better off signing up for another star alliance airmiles scheme. Then the points i collect on SQ put onto that?

I thought Full awards are for those that want to empty their KF account?

Just another quick question. How long do the miles last for before they start expiring?

                        Thanks

KF miles last for 3 years IIRC. Those earned with the Krisflyer Amex card do not expire.
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...
