  • No more op-up to F Class for PPS on paid J?

i was told by a very frequent flyer with TPPS that on one of his very recent flight that he was downgraded to EY involuntarily by SQ from a paid J ticket due to J cabin been full. He told me that F was very empty and SQ apparently did not do any operational upgrades any further.

All he got was the fare difference refund and no voucher and no anything. He was told unofficially that there is a new policy not to upgrade anyone to F Class anymore with SQ.

I do know someone who was upgraded up to FC cabin just after Chinese New Year.

Anyone upgraded from J Cabin to F cabin recently? Or know of such a policy?

I am keeping an open mind if this is true. But if true then the value of PPS or TPPS will be severely downgraded.

...unbelievable if thought-patrol in SQ management have implemented this policy. I am equally open-minded but lets see, for sure I would totally agree about the real-value of PPS or TPPS.

Seems strange that a TPPS passenger would have been downgraded, I assume (but will never know) the entire J cabin was not full with other TPPS passengers with equal status and was just unlucky. If this was not the case then the whole food-chain of status is no longer valid.

Based upon what LionCity was told, if this was true, wonder what would have happened in the case J and Y cabins were full, guess they would just offload a paid J passenger for the next flight or re-route....

What would SQ actually expect to achieve if this policy is true...

UMD is our resident upgrade specialist.

As much as they have made some stupidly arrogant decisions in the last couple of years, I find this one hard to believe, not that I am suggesting it didn't happen!! , just wondering if there was some reason. What route/flight was this ?.

We know they will not upgrade on the fat fella, but doing this would be a guaranteed way to piss people off. I can imagine what I would have said....

Oh My God! This is damn shocking.

Can the other frequent flyers pls verify? I even intend to make a few more flights to meet my PPS qualification, now with this news, I am hesistating if PPS is really that good, or it is just a status symbol.

TPP downgraded from a paid J ticket, instead of op-upped to F? Oh dear. That would be taking the principle of 'protecting front-cabin integrity' perhaps a step too far.

Was it a A388 flight? I have heard this no op-up policy for R class, but I am surprised if this applies to all F classes. Perhaps it was station specific?

EY? I thought SQ got rid of EY. And on the planes it had EY, it had no F.

AFAIK, 'EY' is the general abbreviation within SQ for Economy Class (not just Executive Economy).

Not true, my TPPS bro-in-law got an op-up from C to F on SIN-SYD last weekend. This was on the 77A.

It was a CGK - SIN flight just end of last week. It was not a A388 flight.

It was a relief to see some upgradings mentioned by members....otherwise i will need to throw out my TPPS card out of the window.

I will call him up to let him know the good news that upgrading still happening. Perhaps they don't have first class meals on that flight.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. My bad, so sorry. I guess I should fly SQ more often.

I'll never been Op-up on SQ, not even once after > 10 years of continuous flying, PPS or not. So yes, it's a status symbol and I won't intentionally fly more just to get PPS. Oh, there's some other benefits. You also get 2 luggage tags, a free mag and 10% discount for inflight purchase. Does that count?

Strange that your friend and not others is bumped down to Y. Don't tell me the rest of the J customers are all solitaire? Or perhaps they do that to the person that check-in the last and not by status, which your friend happen to be? I'll would be quite piss off if I am him. If I had wanted a Y seat, I would have booked a Y ticket. SQ shouldn't just downgrade and refund the difference, esp doing so to a loyal customer.

How terrible! I'm not a PPS Club member but I can't imagine how such a loyal customer can be treated this way.

No more op-ops to F anymore as policy is definitely bull. If its true I, and I think many others too, would no longer put their miles to Krisflyer.. And I'm sure the folks at SQ know this. We dont need to go into analytical Game Theory here but I'm quite sure they wouldn't implement such a policy knowing these consequences.

I think your friend should write in to SQ and demand an explanation- why was he blatantly lied to (that there are no more op-ops to F as policy). This to me is what's really unacceptable.
