  • More proof that KrisFlyer miles are worthless

For a long time, people (including myself) have been arguing that KrisFlyer miles are still worth something as KrisFlyer members have access to a little more award inventory on SQ than awards using other airlines' miles. Not true anymore.

For several months now, I've been seeing award availability on the SIN-DPS vv routes using the ANA tool/BD miles while the SQ website only shows Saver waitlist available for those flights. Today, I was looking for a one-way SIN-JFK award for which only a Standard was available on sq.com. Called up KrisFlyer and got the same line. All the while, the ANA tool was showing a seat available. Called up BD and got it using BD miles.

My last 72K KrisFlyer miles are worth shite.

It's just a pity that DC won't be around any much longer...

Perhaps other *A airlines love SQ miles more than SQ?
Time to try redeeming SQ miles on NH/LH.

I've been suspecting that KF members trying to book Saver awards and other *A have access to different quotas of inventory for a while even if they book into the same bucket.

Back in October when I was booking flights for Easter (BD miles), I needed 2 x I seats but could only get 1 on different flights on MEL-SIN. Thought I'd try my luck with someone I know in yield management to grab an additional I seat on the 744, the answer was no because there were already lots of people waitlisted for KF Saver awards on the same flight including 2 PPS members. Which left me wondering how I managed to grab that one I seat as I'd booked it only the day before. Either everyone thought about booking seats on the very same plane overnight, or there are indeed separate O/I/X quotas for *A and KF.

Not yet but will try that the next time I need to burn my KF miles.

I still chalk this up to the Savage25 Effect.

I would say that's unbelieveable, but unfortunately, it's not....

I wonder how long before they put KF out of it's misery and just do away with it ?.

Not that I would do Y for such a long flight, but there's one more today...SIN-JFK on 11APR in economy.

I'm not sure what SQ is looking to gain by doing this... allowing *A partners access to saver awards but not KF members... just goes to show you're better off crediting your miles to another *A programme whose name doesn't start with "K" and end with "flyer".

I've always wondered how inter-airline settlements are transacted w/r/t *A redemptions. Could it be that SQ is deriving a greater value from a *A partner redemption than wiping liability off its own books via a KF saver redemption?

Nope, looks like SQ are holding back KF members from redeeming Saver Awards for the flight but allowing availability via *A parters.

Just did a search for the flights in the pictures above (searching in KF first to dispel any possibility that a search in ANA could impact on KF availability & still the same... Saver award on waitlist with SQ... *A award available.

To me this is proof that SQ are attempting to wipe out the "Saver Award" and make the newly enhanced "Standard Award" at double the miles the only one available...

This has effectively halved the value of KF miles.

Sorry, OT, but do you need to have sufficient miles in KF account to be able to see the flights available?
