  • SQ Permitting Premium Economy Redemptions... BAD NEWS

So SQ has finally announced that it will be possible to make Premium Economy redemptions, as well as upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy and Premium Economy to Business.
Premium is only sold at the "Saver" level. This change has also seen the complete removal of the "Full" award from Economy, Business, Suites and First Class. Will have to see whether this increases the number of "Saver" and "Standard" awards.

The REALLY BAD thing is that on aircraft fitted with PEY, it will no longer be possible to upgrade from Economy to Business. This is a really annoying situation, making it a lot more costly if wanting to upgrade to Business Class (pax will be required to purchase PEY).

    Fly well,
    Travel safe,
    And have a pleasant journey.

Well, the 'enhancement' is not as bad as initially expected.

Appears that there is no increase to the number of miles needed to redeem Y, J and F seats as widely expected/speculated.

    phew..

The only bad news was that Europe (Zone I) - Amsterdam, Athens, Copenhagen and Rome went up, correct?

Seems to be. Only one zone for Europe. Old chart divided Europe in two based on, I think, whether there was A380 service or not.

And with this revision, it actually cost more miles to redeem PY now than J previously on these routes

Compared to some of the devaluations that have hit other programs of late, I'd say KF members got off pretty lightly...

Singapore Airlines has handled this very well and shown genuine appreciation for its frequent flyers. I expected an increase in miles required (for J and F) as well and instead they have plugged PY in the existing charts. Thumbs up!

Reason enough to book your next trip with them!

omg.. I intend to redeem a return flight on J from Europe zone 1... extra miles required now..

btw, imho, i do not think this is worth to redeem PY seats.. hardware is better, but services is same as Y.
I was on PY from HKG to SIN 2 months ago. Champagne was only offered when I asked for it.. it served in a tiny plastic glass..

I agree with you. Was expecting an increase for F/C as well but it did not happen so I am pleased.

Its that way for all the other carriers offering PY so what's the problem? One class upgrade is industry standard

No it isn't actually. QF offer economy to premium or business for a start.

Yes, but what about connecting flights? Example upgrading from Economy Sydney-Rome - SQ222 has Premium and SQ366 doesn't! So how does that work?? You cannot upgrade at all unless you do two separate upgrades, one for each leg?? Unless I've missed something (which I hope I have), that's not thought out very well and will make me start thinking of joining another FF program in that case!

                            For flights with PY also?

Yes. At the time of requesting the upgrade you can select both business and premium economy, so if you are unsuccessful at upgrading to business you are then considered for premium economy.
