  • When the heck is SQ going to phase out the old NON-AVOD system?

I recently took the 777-300 from Shanghai and was suprised that they were using the older business seats and non-avod entertainment (This was the star alliance painted plane). For the 5 hours flight and a 100% full flight, its quite a disappointment, especailly for the price paid.

Understand that there are a lot of posts in the forum about the upgrading of planes, but when is the timeline for the non-Avod 772 and 773?:

    Which flight was this?

And was it meant to use the new product in the first place or the old one?

I guess that must be SQ833, the day time peak flight.

According to 9V-JKL's informative post here:

        "SQ830/833 (B773) = Regional F, Regional C, Y(73A New F, New Regional C, New Y pending eff date)"

        Interesting, seems it's still postponed...

The daytime peak flight SQ830/833 requires the higher capacity B773 but we all know that the Koito fiasco halted the retrofit. Until such time when Koito is able to produce the new F seat or SQ decides to change to a new supplier, it will be a lottery to get avod plane if you are travelling on the flight.

For a 5 hours flight, you can probably watch about 2 to 2.5 movies. So non-avod is still bearable unless you are a frequent traveller. Other asian competitors (eg CX, TG, MH, etc) are still operating similar non-avod IFE system. CX even has "handset-less" IFE system (including in business class) in their older planes, so you can't even play games on those flights.
