Just an update - took this flight yesterday and i decided on 2A in the end - pleased i did as well as i saw the protrusion at the back of 1A and felt that room around the shoulders was more important than space at the front - was still able to stretch out fine though.

Normally i enjoy First mostly for the food & drink but due to some recent stomach surgery (from which i am now fully recovered) i could only manage three glasses of Krug/Dom (as opposed to my usual 3 or 4 bottles ) and 2 courses out of 6 from the meal. I suppose without the food & drink taking the New J in row 11&12 would probably make more sense!

Curious. I realised no bassinet seats in first class on the 77W. Is it because the seat is big so you can put the infant on your lap or beside you ?

The other aircrafts like A380, 747, 777 all have designated bassinet seats in suites/first class. Only 77W does not have a designated bassinet seat.

Glad you did, as it's resulted in one of the more interesting recent threads. It is not the first 'debate' we have had on here about F on the 77W, and I am sure it won't be the last.

Being the (not so) new products for the 'World's Best Airline', the improvement made in J product is so much more than what's made in F. I think J is an excellent product as much as I hate having to flip over the seat into a bed when dozing off, and how uncomfortable the 'seat back' is in bed mode -- overall it is still a great product. But F: in my opinion there shouldn't be compromise. No flipping should be required even though it saves a lot of weight for this type of seat compared to the more traditional reclining type First Class seats (like SkySuites).

CX has 1-1-1 in two rows on their 77W F. 6 F seats in roughly the same area as SQ's 77W F (8 seats).
NH/JL new F has 1-2-1 in two rows but in a slightly longer F cabin. The extra space either goes to the passenger seat (creating more personal space), or bigger aisle (better F atmosphere, less distance between seats).
It is bad enough that 77Ws don't have the exclusive atmosphere that 744s have in the nose section. Cramped cabin doesn't help the ambience.

Again, F seats -- recline to bed: good, flip to bed: bad!

Remember, even internally at SQ just prior to the launch, F on the 77W was being described as 'just an enhanced SkySuite basically, the 'big new F' is coming on the A380'. Although at the time there were people claiming F on the 77W and A380 were going to be the same.

The way some people complain about First Class, Dog forbid they should ever have to slum it in Business Class on a route without First Class when their bizjet is in for a C-check.

Row 2 for sleeping since there is no protrusion. Otherwise, Row 1 is more spacious upfront.

Fingers crossed that HUGE AL doesn't put you on ignore for that ;-)

I stopped flying Suites after 1 segment and stopped flying 77W F after 3 segments. I am a QPP1 in his third year - looks like SQ doesn't want to let go of me...

At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. Lets face it, no one is going to be sat in F with a tape measure working out the surface area of the seat (well one person may ). THere are those of us who like 77W, and those who like the 744. I love both and my decision to chose which is dependant on convenience and not the surface area of the seat as i know i will be very comfortable in both.
You haven't met some of the people here yet who go down to the slightest, tiny, little details that they notice and compare on the various aircrafts, service, & a few who even work out the aircrafts rotation which is amazing!

So in future, if you are in doubt, don't bother to call or email SQ, they sometimes give the wrong information, here is the place you should come to if you are in doubt!

The best comparison I can give on how they have got F wrong on the 77W is the fact that when I was in JCL on the 744 as much as I loved it I still wished I was up front in a Skysuite, but when I am in JCL on the 77W I am more than happy and (a nice glass of Dom or Krug apart) have no wish to be in F.

Of course it all about individual opinions, and everyone is entitled to theirs. But give me 'row 3' on the 77W or row 4 on the 744 any day.
