  • Worst Meals ever had on SQ

Been flying SQ now for a number of years.. mainly Y with the odd J fly here and there.. but gotta say the run I just had BNE-SIN had the worst meals I have ever been served. So tasteless and overcooked/heated. Very strange and scarily resembled lovely QF offerings of years gone by.

Please don't let me down for my return BTC round of lamb!

i think the food quality (Y) in sq has significantly deteriorated. last flew on cgk-sin leg, they serve an indian-spiced beef with rice for the oriental option, not a very good idea .

having flown on cx medium and long haul recently, i had to say their oriental food offering (selection and taste) is much better than SQ.

I was on First Class SIN-CGK last week, I ordered the Nasi Lemak, and it was the worst Nasi Lemak I had ever tried in my life.

SIN-BOM Breakfast service in Y, disgusting cheese omelette with chives. Absolutely horrible. I find that in economy class, food has never been a strong point for SQ.
The world's too large a place not to go wandering.

While I am not expecting gourmet dinning, I have to concede that Food quality is not a strong point on SQ. On F, it's fine most of the time and sometimes good, but generally not outstanding. On J, it's just OK but certainly they can do better with portions, esp for short haul. On Y, it range from mediocre to barely edible to downright awful, depending on your luck. This is one area that SQ can improve. I don't have much comparison but the other airline I took often is CX/DragonAir and I really enjoy the meal in J or F. Tasty, and good portions.

Worst meal ever had was probably a seafood meal from BKK-SIN. The cod or seabass (can't remember which) was absolute mush by the time it got to me! Absolutely inedible!

I seem to have good luck with the Hindu (Non Vegetarian) Meal - HML from HKG, SIN and LHR.

Only time I had an inedible meal on SQ was over a year ago when flights to YVR still existed, and on the ICN-YVR sector, I opted for the Korean meal once, and the beef (which did have a good flavor and taste), was unchewable. Other than that, only carriers with bad Y meals from my experience are on AC and UA (and also a few QF flights not all), where they taste worse than microveable TV dinners.

Couple of things I noticed since my first flight on SQ:

                  1. Portion size becoming smaller and probably 2/3 to 3/4. Sometimes an attentive Cabin crew noticed that I did not seems to have enough will ask if I want additional meal. My standard reply was that I do not to eat at the expense of the meal of the service staff. But it only happens in F or J Cabins.

                  2. Snacks - downgrading in terms of quality and provisions of more peanuts even in J. (I know I am nagging on this point too much...I evolved from the monkeys as what Mrs LionCity also emphasized!).

                  3. Quality - I remembered when coach class travel offered good food. When I was a kid, I made a trip between NRT - SIN with SQ 7 with stopovers in TPE and HKG, the food was a full piece of pork steak. Now what I see are mish mash processed like food.

Yes, it has been a downward path and probably as part of the cost cutting measures.

The J-class Nasi Lemak (and Nasi Biryani) is WAYYY better than the F-class product.

Surprisingly my worst meal on SQ would have to be on the SQ 380 main meal, whatever it was, neither me or my father could distinguish what they served. When we looked at it, we were like great, beautiful mean, when we ate it, we realized that it wasn't what it looked like and was something horrible.

The second meal however was brilliant, one of the best in the sky

I used to travel on SIN-YVR in Y couple of times and the food has generally been good. AC Y on PDG-YVR has been shockingly good (esp for it's standard) while food out of YVR (to asia) is pretty decent if not mediocre.

I agree the food is getting from bad to worse.

In J the quality is inconsistent. I BTC every time I fly now to be sure of a nice meal

My daughter couldn't eat the meal in Y on our recent SIN-ICN-SFO trip.

Had to eat at ICN ( paid in USD, got killed on the exchange rate ) onward.

Can anyone suggest an airline ex-SIN that still provides good food in flight?

Or has everyone cut back food budgets?

Is is just me or the stuff catered ex-SIN by SATS has dropped in quality since it was diversified?

Interesting point. Perhaps that the SATS staff cannot have discounted or free travel on SQ has also affected the morale of the staff. SQ is just another customer now not someone from the same family.
