Someone on YouTube told me that there was a rumour stating that the SQ 744 may return to SFO due to capacity issues with the 77W. I already know SQ is phasing out its 744's, but anyone know if it's a rumour?

I've heard these rumors about SQ1/2 on a couple of threads here on SQTalk, but no one can seem to confirm it on if or when that is taking place. In September, I would've dismissed the idea of it being a reality, but now with the 744 withdrawal pushed to 2012 according to Nick C, and also the fact that SQ is still keeping its 744 fleet at 9 even after the 388 replacement for MEL, anything is possible.

Could it be the same with SQ16/15? Could they go back to 744 as well?Originally posted by sumitsan View PostI've heard these rumors about SQ1/2 on a couple of threads here on SQTalk, but no one can seem to confirm it on if or when that is taking place. Do you have any links to it?Originally posted by sumitsan View PostI've heard these rumors about SQ1/2 on a couple of threads here on SQTalk, but no one can seem to confirm it on if or when that is taking place. There are mentions of the possible SQ1/2 switch on Pages 46 & 47 in the 747-400 withdrawal thread, but no confirmed sources. Nick C, in another thread, mentioned recently that 744s' withdrawal is now 2012.Originally posted by SQfanatic View PostDo you have any links to it?
So far, I didn't hear anything for SQ15/16.Originally posted by SQfanatic View PostCould it be the same with SQ16/15? Could they go back to 744 as well?
That's surprising. Right now 9 744s, which SQ currently operates, is more than enough aircraft for the existing 744 routes. With SQ219/220 getting another a/c switch in Feb, 1 or 2 more 744s will be free, so if SQ1/2 is switching, they already should have enough JumboJets.Originally posted by feb01mel View PostMy sources just told me yesterday SQ is taking back 2 747s from the desert to operate on SQ1 & 2.

Nice to meet you as well. I'm LFMusicRocks from YT. I'd be so happy if SQ2/1 switch back to the 744, I didn't fly it this summer, because they upped the prices because both SFO-HKG-SIN and SFO-ICN-SIN use the 77W, when I've flown it, the prices were much lower compared to how it was now.Originally posted by singaporeairlinesboi View PostLol that person one youtube was me (xxquiker)......nice to meet you
Instead I've flown CX, which uses its 74A (retrofitted 744), the prices were much cheaper though.

Just wondering....
When will this take into effect? I'm crossing my fingers that my flight in end January won't be swapped with a 744 or else i will be one pissed guy...744 Y class ain't exactly a great way to fly nowadays, compared to the 773 ones......

I assume they'll probably put the 744 back in service for SFO in the spring or summer or something.
