My answer to your question is in F and J, SQ is by no means overrated but it is in Y.

Y needs a revamp in service standards if you ask me. Its still good but several other Asian airlines are as good in Y or better at times. SQ can improve the Y experience easily without it being too costly. Sure they may not generate the same yields as J/F pax but their sheer numbers make them quite a prowess too I reckon. An I would think a more satisfied Y pax is likely to consider moving up to J in the future.
I agreed with you that improving the Y product will go someway in moving up to J in the future. I was flying liked crazy in Y for 4 years before moving up to J due to the good experiences. Haven't been flying Y other than one or two trips in the past year and the experiences haven't been that interesting. But will qualify that statement on limited Y experiences and could have been affected by previous J/F experiences.

MAN_FLYER & Kyo, Thanks for the info. I vaguely remembered where the link was, but the thing is whenever I am selecting a seat, I always have to call them, and that's when they ask me what I want for meals. Usually, at that moment, I'm not behind a PC. Anyways, the BTC is just one experience out of many other issues. They could really improve on basic customer service skills in the overall. I know from past experience that call center jobs are stressful, but with that said, only those with complete patience should be in that field.

And Kyo, I completely agree with you that there are far worse call center agents as well out there that I'll probably run into down the road. I'm just mentioning from my experience.

Here is generally the F selection, if you have to 's-p-e-l-l' out the exact code... (which you shouldn't):

Of course, different routes have different options that can be keyed in. Only uploading this as I'm sure some people would be interested... if any of the mods prefer, I can remove it.

sumitsan: I can think of one call centre in particular that is far, far, FARRRRR worse. How bad? If there was a BTC option, they'd probably say there was no such thing as BTC... and then blame it on non-existent Terms & Conditions or something..

KF is frustrating at times but nowhere close to being the rudest agents in the biz..

IMO, in the overall, SQ does provide top notch service in the air. With the exception of flights to MAA and a one-time SQ26 problem, the crew are very attentive, and are always very hospitable.

I hear bad things about management, but didn't "personally" experience anything negative there, so can't comment on that, even about Mr CCS. However, I have to say that the people working at the call centers for SQ are probably the rudest agents I've talked to in the call center business. During the few Business/First class trips I take, when I go for the "book your cook" option, they always read the menu really fast, and when I politely ask them if it is possible to repeat the options slowly, they get upset with me.

As a person who works at monitoring call center agents at my workplace, I gotta say, that's horrible customer service.

Reading reviews is one thing, reading propaganda is entirely another.

At the end of the day, you'll still go out and buy that car and (hopefully) most likely have opinions of your own.

ive never flown EK. I've just been reading all the EK's trip report on Airliners. net and Skytrax reviews, and the most common thing the traveler experiences is the inconsistent level of service. "service ranges from complete rudeness to excellent". so i cant judge EK untill i fly with them, but from what i read, that is the impression EK has given me.
