  • 3 laptops into UK

Just wondering if I were to bring in 3 laptops into the UK, would there be any problems?

All 3 laptops are not new... 1 is client laptop, 1 is company laptop, and the last one is a personal laptop Just wondering if there are any restrictions in the number of laptops allowed to be brought into the UK...

Planning to check in 1 laptop, and hand carry 2 laptops. Would SQ pose any issues on this?

    Thanks!

I'm not aware of any restrictions. I was carrying two in and out for a couple of months.

What makes you think there may be a problem, even more so why would SQ care ?.

I carried two in my last trip, both of them were in my checked-in Tumi. SQ had no problem. Did go to the E.U. but not to the U.K., though.

There was a recent thread on FT where someone checked their laptop on SQ flight. Needless to say it was damaged on arrival.

Do you mean hand carry 2 laptops as in 1 in your hand luggage and the other separately ? If so, that should be fine but you may run into problems if you try 1 hand luggage and 2 separate laptops.

                Other concerns:

                * You may have read on here reports about SQ occasionally enforcing the hand luggage weight restriction. From here:

                http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...in_baggage.jsp

it says "a" laptop is exempt from the weight restriction but this probably doesn't apply to more than 1 laptop.

                * I'd be wary about carrying anything for anyone unless I bought it myself or it came direct from an unconnected third party or I can take it apart and see exactly what is outside/inside. Do you really need to bring along your client's laptop ? Can't s/he do it him/herself or give you a DVD/CD with the relevant data ?

Good point. Just as a parcel/bag being carried for someone else is no protection if it contains illicit material, same applies to illicit electronic material.

Or much more likely - something hidden inside the laptop itself which you won't find unless you dismantle it.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I was just checking if anyone's aware of such restrictions from the UK custom's point of view, as well as SQ's policy, if any. I didn't want to be caught where I had to dispose off any laptops!

Initially, I was planning to hand carry 2 (in 1 check in bag) and 1 to be checked in. But checking in seems to be a very risky thing.

As for the client's laptop: When I visit my client's site, they only allow their own laptops to be connected to the network, hence I have to carry a laptop provided by them whenever I visit their site (bleah).

Now, I'm thinking of just hand carrying 3 laptops. But hopefully they are not too strict on the hand carry baggage weight restriction. Also, I have a DSLR bag to carry as well.

                      So:-

                      1 bag = 3 laptop
                      1 small bag for Camera.

                      Shouldn't be a problem, right?

                      Will be traveling in Business.

I think you will be fine. I always carry 2 Laptops and a data projector. Never had an issue in any EU country. Business is also a little more generous of carry on 2.

                        question?
