  • Jakarta CGK turnaround

    Hello fellow SQ-Talkers.

I managed to snag a First Class/Suites redemption from Jakarta-Singapore-Hong Kong. I am departing Jakarta on SQ 965 at 1920 hours, and will catch a flight to Hong Kong the next day.

I need to position myself to Jakarta for the flight.

I am thinking of taking SQ 960 which arrives in Jakarta at 1605 or SQ 958 which arrives Jakarta at 1325.

I am not sure if SQ 960 would be too close to cutting it to check in for SQ 965, given that I need to collect bags (I have Star Gold) and recheck for SQ 965. Has anyone done this connection before and is it doable? How is immigration like at Jakarta airport? Do they have E-gates for Singapore passport holders?

Should I give myself more time by taking SQ 958?

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    Thank you.

Looking at your itinerary, I think you are going to overnight in SG before going to HK? If so, do you intend to spend the night in the transit area? If you intend to go home, then I'm pretty sure you can check your bag for the SIN-HKG leg in SIN. Saves you the hassle of baggage claim.

SQ is generally on time and I would personally do 960 as there should be enough time, but really all boils down to your risk tolerance/willingness to sit in a lounge.

      Hi there.

You should be able to use the Immigration e-gates in Jakarta as long as you complete and submit the All Indonesia arrival form before arrival.

If I were you, I would try to do online check-in for CGK-SIN-HKG. Get mobile boarding passes.

At the SIN airport prior to your SIN-CGK flight, drop off your bag for SIN-HKG flight.

This way you don’t have to worry about picking up your luggage in CGK.

I am pretty sure (but I can’t confirm this) you can even do transit from SQ SIN-CGK to SQ CGK-SIN flights in CGK without clearing Immigration if you don’t have checked baggage.

      Good luck!

        Just want to add:

As a foreign passport holder, you can only use the E-gates for immigration once you have obtained the E-Visa on the Indonesian Immigration Visa site before your arrival into Indonesia. If you do hold passports from the visa free countries, you just have to register yourself for E-visa on the site, a mere 1 - 2 minutes process with no fee. If you hold passports that requires visa on arrival or any other visas, then it will take about 5 minutes for you to apply for the E-Visa and it will cost you about 35 USD. CGK passport clearance at T3 has improved a lot of the years and with the 50 E-gates that they install plus around 10 other manual counters, the immigration has been a breeze at least for the last year for me.

This reply may be a little late.

But anyway I wouldn’t risk SQ960. 958 will prob be the limit - simple reasoning: if SQ960 gets delayed, there’s only SQ962 after (for you to request to be swapped to). But 962 leaves way too little time for you to exit CGK arrival and check in for 965.
at least if you do 958 and it’s delayed, you can still ask to switch to 960.

separately anyway, interesting you chose to do this… I often buy my US-bound premium economy tickets ex-CGK too.
It’s wayyy cheaper. I bought my upcoming one for 1960000idr (which is around $1450sgd… vs $2300 ex-SIN).

of course it means you need to take time off to fly to CGK.. which fortunately I have.. and I usually fly in on SQ952 and spend the day there eating and doing a 2hr spa massage!
and SQ952 is usually available with 30% redemption discount during KF spontaneous escapade promos.

Tickets ex-CGK to US and Asia are generally significantly cheaper. Not sure why.
