  • The New Improved F Seat On 77W

Recently I was on board 9V-SWJ. I noticed the new features on F seat which indeed improve the comfort zone.

Yes, the slippery seats and backseat had been improved a while. And now they put the additional hard cushion/ hard pilow by the arm rest, so the pax would be able to rest their arms comfortably. Well I used to use the pillow for this, but now, no need to.

It's a very good improvement. I am very happy with this. Just make sure when landing, don't forget to hold on to it. Otherwise the boxed-shaped-pillow-arm-rest will fly down to the floor... all the way from second row to the curtain after row 1.

SQ 77W J Class is good enough for me

I took the 77W for the first time last December in J (SIN-LAX return). I must say that it was as good as it gets for me. Short of the Suites in the A380, I don't think I would obtain enough benefits from the other F class products on SQ flights to be worth the extra fare. Even the Suites would only be for special occasions (honeymoon etc.).

Being a short arse, I could stretch out very comfortably in the New J class. In fact I fell asleep (legs fully stretched out) quite easily and comfortably even without converting the seat into the bed mode.

With the kind of IFE and inflight service on SQ, I don't see a need to fly F ever with the new J class equipment.

Too bad from late June onwards I'll be in a non-SQ country for a couple of years.

To clarify, the additional cushion is on trial basis. So, if any SQTalkers fly out there and think that the cushion is helping in making the lounging/seating more comfortable, please do raise the voice of approval. Thanks...

Just took 9V-SWE. There was no cushion on trial. And even the head rest cover, was just the cloth, no padding. According to the IFS, the trial is only for SWJ, SWK, and SWL (I had not been lucky enough to ride in the last two aircrafts!)

Not forgetting SQ is also providing the two cute soft toys for F Class Pax as shown in one of your picture.

The new cushion can be used as a headrest while lounging. Actually it has many possibility of using it depending on the creativity of the pax. As a dutch pillow comes to mind. But when the plane touches down, that is the time when the cushions are flying off to the floor.

Hmmm...a shaky landing due to the fact that not "all electronic equipment is power off during landing" as per the pre-landing advisory, which unfortunately affects the pilots' judgement/reaction?

I don't think all the flight that I had been on, they were shaky landings.
The reason why the cushions were flying around while landing is due to the fact that the cushions are stand alone without any velcro. Thus slippery leather with the tilted downward direction for landing made the cushion slipping down... Of course if there is a pax occupied the seat, he/she would hold on the cushion.

Physics have neven been my forte in school, but in short, is that Newton's second law of motion in play?

The latest I heard from visit to SQ office recently, due to the positive feedbacks from pax and crew, the armrest would be a permanent feature on all 77W very soon. At the moment , the portable ones are found in 9V-SWJ, 9V-SWK and 9V-SWL.
                              Thank you SQ for listening!
