  • 9V-SKA is out of Service

    9V-SKA is out of service.

On pushback from SIN a tow bar broke.

Others report it hit a car.

Singapore Airlines has initiated service recovery and a Boeing 747-400 is coming to substitute for tonight's (10 January 2008) SQ221 SINSYD.

    A disappointing circumstance.

This is unfortunate. How long will this be out of service? Hopefully there is no major damage to the aircraft.

An FT'er, who is one of the passengers, said the plane hit a car. (See the SQ forum on FT) He said the pilot asked all passengers to disembarked by stairs. Wonder whose fault it was, the driver of the car or the tow truck?

Edit: An article on Channel News Asia doesn't mention anything about the plane hitting a car.

According to CNA Article, "SIA says a tow truck used to push back the aircraft experienced some hydraulic failure. The truck disconnected from the plane. "

So the issue has to be with the tow truck not the airport infrastructure though..

This is most unfortunate, we are meant to be onboard this Sat (12th), any chance they might swing 9V-SKB in quickly?

Wow I hope it works well for you. Thing is, nobody's actually seen KB arrive in SIN yet.

I am also on SQ220 tomorrow, not quite sure what to expect at the gate now.

Or even if I am going to make it to the gate at all ..cause some people are going to miss out on a seat if SKA doesn't make it to Sydney.

Thats a shame to those who eagerly await to fly the plane to find they can't fly it.

Always a risk with only one type of aircraft if something goes wrong.

The difference is that the Suite passenger gets a huge chunk of money back. The Business class pax gets nothing.

That's because there is no more price diff in Business for the A380... used to cost around USD 400 more now they are the same

it seems perplexing though that altho the tow-bar or "tow-barless" tug broke down etc - why cant the pilot pull the brakes - instead of having part of the main boggie of the A380 move onto the grass verge?
