  • SQ follows North American carriers

In one of recent flight, I just noticed something different accompanying the drinks. Instead of the usual bright yellow mixed nuts, what was served was a bag of pretzel.

probably someone in your cabin is allergic to nuts?

I believed there is a thread on this topic.

To clarify: There was no announcement regarding nuts allergy on board.

Got the explanation from SQ about this particular flight.
The inbound flight had nut allergy case. Since the flight is a turnaround, thus, everything were loaded from Singapore. Thus, to reduce the risk of accidently someone opens the nuts, thus both segments were loaded with nut-free.

I have had the pretzels on board of SQ for a few times now. Now I know why...

Kudos to SQ for taking the right actions to ensure the safety and comfort of their passengers.

I suffer from allergic bronchitis and certain foods may be dangerous to me as they heighten the histimine reaction in my body, and I go into coughing fits, difficulties in breathing. Mine is considered mild, but my respiratory specialist did mention that people have died from such fits.

Peanuts are notorious as being one of the most allergy inducing foods. My infant sons have been put on an allergy-free diet programme to properly wean them through allergy-free foods until they are old enough and their immune system is strong enough before we introduce such high-allergen foods (like peanuts, beans, soy, pineapples, eggs, seafood)

So spare a thought before you gripe about missing peanuts on your flights.

Excellent reminder about allergy risks, bloob. Thanks.

However, the sentiment in the last sentence seems, to me, misplaced, because you'll find that CGK is one of the most accommodating customers out there. I think his post was more a result of the absence of any announcement that would explain the switch to pretzels. Had such an announcement been made, I'm quite sure that CGK would have taken the change in pre-flight munchies in stride.

Am i sounded like a heartless person now? Perhaps, indeed it's time for me to say good bye.
I posted the pictures because of an attempt to inform SQ flyers to be aware of what might happen on board SQ occasionally. And I guess my attempt of doing this in a fun and joking way was failed. Pretzel is what I get many many times when flying in North America when there is no meal service. Also that's what available in the lounge. And it's funny to see that the brand that SQ served (as seen in the picture) is Penn State.

Well, I guess I failed in delivering the fun and such posts. The same as my green BP. Instead of posting in the mode of "SQ doesn't love me anymore," I tried a different way. Yes, I was amazed by the fact that when checked-in at CMB in a C class, I was given a green BP. Of course, i was surprised by the fact it happened, but did not want to make a fuss demanding for a change. Instead I kept what they gave me, and shared it here. Again, I failed to entertain.

Anyway, one of SQtalkers here just suggested to me to take a rest. Perhaps that's what I will do.

                    Ciao!

i think we all could try to understand each others intents... Nothing of serious has happened. No one is heartless.
Sometimes communications through bulletin boards are not so intuitive because of the lack of sounds, facial expressions and so on
I'm pretty sure both of you where genuine when posting your messages and no one is seriously recriminating something to the other.

There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

Don't you worry, my dear. I thought the tongue-in-cheek post was quite funny. You had me smiling when my workday was feeling onerous.

I guess it's easy to misinterpret posts online, but I'll be one to vouch for your good intentions. I've been around you enough to know you can't possibly be described as "heartless" -- not even on a bad day. Ha, I can't claim the same for me, on a good day.

I disagree with that SQTalker. I think you should continue to keep us company. (And send that SQTalker my way: after today's stresses, my hands are itching to strangle someone. )

I agree with jjpb3, CGK we will all be lost without your insight. And yes, I too got a chuckle out of that green BP ex-CMB. Please keep posting; and on a side note you seem very caring, not hearltless at all(although I've never met you personally).

I hate pretzels...since I also associate them with domestic US airlines

Ah the joys of textual communication! Believe me - I don't think anyone on any side meant any harm. It's just a vagary - and an exhibition of how in many cases spoken words always seem to get the right message across a whole lot clearer than written ones. CGK , if anyone needs a vouch - is one of the most accomodating people I've ever met. I say that without reservation.
