An Old SQ Ticket

Haven't seen one of those in years! Just on a side note, it seems to state JL as the carrier and not SQ. If I am not mistaken JL719 use to be the HND-SIN route.God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

Wow. Memory lane. This ticket has a few details that give us a glimpse into what tickets were like then.
This fare looks pretty much like full fare 1 year ticket - and issued on SQ Stock 27 Sept 1983 for travel beginning 3 Oct 83, with an NVA of 3 Oct 84.
Not sure why - i think the form of payment (usually filled with invagt - Invoice agent) is mixed up with what should be the endorsements box (where you'd put the "nonref" remark in), and it's also strange that it's non-refundable.

Wow, thanks for some nostalgia! I remember seeing my parents use them regularly in that era, and for years after that. I don't remember any of ours being valid for a full year, but maybe we did in fact have at least one.
I also now remember pneumatic headsets, distinctly different cabin decor than today, and a smoking section.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, SQ12 was operated by either a 747-200 or 747-300 (I know that it was flown only by the latter in the late 80s and early 90s, but not sure about '83), and JL flights to SIN were operated by 742s and DC10s.

Originally posted by TerryK View PostYeah, the old time. Some refundable tickets were marked as nonref due to commission rebates. i.e. You paid less than face value of the published fare ticket and cannot get a full refund directly from airlines.
I was pretty tiny then (coff coff) but remember my dad asking for a swap to another airline at the airport for whatever reason... and we got it with no fuss at all.
The other thing I remember was that the price marked on the ticket was higher than what we actually paid...so part of it may have come out of the agent's commission. This was especially so for economy tickets. There was no business class then.
